I've been checking in on this thread most of the day, during a several hundred mile business trip to locations around home base.

I remain amazed that people seem to think there is some way out of this relatively unscathed; and I am further amazed that people think they know how it's going to come apart and can plan accordingly.

Well, go ahead. Plan all you want, but once it starts coming apart, NO ONE knows where this all goes. Do I have "preps?" Well, sure. **** happens in business, in marriage, in life. Sometimes you lose your job with no notice. Sometimes, people in your life drop dead. Sometimes, your kids have problems and you need to bail their asses out...or maybe you don't. For me, that's the way I was raised. Have always had a garden, fruit trees, know how to preserve food, know how to be much more self sufficient than not. Save money like there won't be any more coming. I know how to fix more **** than I really ought to. I find that recreational and soothing, right up until the point that the item is really not repairable and then out it goes. Move along.

Little of that will make a difference. The countdown clock is ticking, and while we can hear the clock, we're in the dark and have NO IDEA how much time is left.

Sage advice here: >>Live every day to the fullest and expect nothing the next.>>

Oh, I am working on my pitchfork. My country reversed 95% of its dumb **** in 1984. I don't yet know how it needs to position itself for this. We have an out of control asset bubble in housing though with the majority of the country invested long term in housing.

I was talking with the CEO of one of the largest regional banks a few months ago. He said families in Australia and New Zealand have spent the last 30 years becoming Italy and the banks won't let them become Greece, so there is no where else to keep leveraging debt from. He had a pretty grim outlook.

Its not like people at the top don't know. Its the people at the bottom bringing it on themselves.

There is something very strange going on in the retail economy right now. Everyone I talk too has experience almost a complete stoppage in sales. It's almost like all the money just dried up. Wondering if the faith in repealing Obamacare has disappeared and folks are holding on their money.

So I was out with friends Saturday night, and out to a bar for really expensive food (not worth it), but the company sure was.

The bar next door was closed at 8PM. On a Saturday night. Supposedly it's a "diner", but it sure looked like a bar.

That, and who knows what tax destruction the R party has in store for us?

(and the service economy is taking a giant dump, too, BTW)

With regard to strange occurrences in retail sales. I've seen it in Ebay auctions of equipment that I was looking for. Things are selling at lower prices than a few months ago. The change was sudden enough that it really stood out.

Aztrader,
I've been waiting for someone else to confirm what I've been sensing for a while now.
Examples are too numerous to mention, but when daughter, who works part-time at a Sephora in a good-sized mall, told of going to work one day about a month ago and being required to watch a video on the decline of malls in America, I knew it wasn't my imagination.

I guess the tax refunds have all been spent.

Karl, 30M people are not going to suddenly start to die off without a stampede for the exits. Right now, people are content to poison themselves and live with the Type 2 consequences because Other People's Money shield them from the financial repercussions. At best, they will listen to the ADA. Take all that support away, and a substantial fraction of them will find their way to LCHF, and from there, to questioning the status quo and some of those will find their way here perhaps.

I think you are right that Type 2 patients will be targeted first in the great financial adjustment. But sudden, imminent mortality has a way of sharpening the mind. After the first several million find LCHF too late and die anyways within the first year after support is cut off, but their "if only I had found it earlier" lamentations are heard by the rest, fueled by people sharing experiences on the Net, we will see many of the remainder try it out. I expect most to not be able to stick it out, but we'll likely see many of that 30M try it and stick to it if for nothing else than by necessity: the kind of economic calamity that will visit us will enforce caloric restriction, and we now know fats are satiating, so hopefully many will put two and two together.

We live in easy times at the moment, borrowed excessively from the future. Humans are tough to kill when cornered, but easy to kill when given ample opportunity for indolence.

Meanwhile all of the kids in the schools are indoctrinated into a carb-laden lifestyle because the lunchrooms MUST abide by Federal dietary regulations, which are aligned with the USDA pyramid.

A sample menu for the week ...

Just a timely article that an acquaintance mentioned: "It's part of my daily routine all day and at night before I go to bed, all of it has to be done," said type two diabetic Denise Shank. She has been a slave to this routine for 29 years. Shes among millions of people who have to take injected insulin to control their blood sugar levels.

People want the easy pill. 29 years as a Type 2. Holy moly.
