That Could NEVER Happen Here...

Anyone remember what happened today, 71 years ago?

Probably not.

On February 19th, 1942 FDR willfully and intentionally violated The Constitution, an act for which he should have been impeached.

I am speaking of the Japanese internment -- the rounding up of over 100,000 people who were frog-marched into Concentration Camps on American soil.

Far more than half were American Citizens with a full and complete set of alleged Constitutional Rights.

We, America, did this.

We, America, imprisoned our own citizens without trial, without suspicion, without due process of law and without evidence.

We did so merely on their genetic code and the ancestry of their parents.

We did this on American soil and through the American mainland, not in some foreign combat zone.

I repeat:  We, Americans, did this.

We did this here.  We not only took these people's freedom without cause we dispossessed them of every worldly thing they owned that was not able to be carried in their hands at the time they were rounded up.

To those who believe that America is "exceptional" and that our government would never abuse powers such as the NDAA and similar laws allegedly passed to "protect" us, I remind you that our government already has done so with willful intent, and it happened not all that long ago either.

Those who are in our government in any capacity, local, state or federal, and state that our government "would never do such a thing" are factual liars and must be immediately removed from office as our government has already proved through its own actions that it not only will do so it did exactly that.

NEVER AGAIN is not just for Jewish people.

It is for us all.

Whenever I hear that "never again" statement made, my first question is: "How?" The response is always a very confused look on the other person's face.

My former and now deceased MIL was a 442 baby. Her parents and family were interned in Eastern OR. Her father was a successful chef and owned a restaurant Near Ontario, OR. They also owned their own homes. They were given 72 hours to liquidate ALL property and take what they could carry to the camps. They were given gunny sacks and told to gather straw and make their own mattresses. Her mother lost her first baby in the camp, and it wasn't until uncle Yas enlisted in the 442 that she got sufficient resources to bring Denise (my MIL) to term. Reperations were $20k. A fraction of what was lost.

This topic is very close to home for me and my family. It certainly did and can happen here. Thanks for posting.

and for those that think that WW2 was too long ago, Ruby Ridge, Waco, & Big Bear provide recent examples of the government flat out murdering people - and getting away with it.

Just substitute "Jap" with "gun nut", "domestic terrorist", or "redneck".

This country is full of hate and primed for a new scapegoat.

Oh and let us not forget native Americans. I have blood from three of the five civilized tribes in me. My great great grandfather wife and kids were living on a thousand acre farm outside of Nashville. Everyone called him General because he fought with Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans and knew Jackson personally. He had a personally pledge if they were going to make them move they would do it in the summer. Well in the middle of the winter they came and made them walk to Oklahoma. Stole all of their assets except that which they could carry. They had to cross a river in the middle of winter and basically my great great grandmother died from exposure. Basically, the five civilized tribes adopted white men ways and beat white men at business so whites said screw you and seized all of their assets and moved them to Oklahoma. Yes it has happened here several times. It will probably happen several more times.

Human beings are human beings. Regardless of race or nationality. I would no more trust the US Government with my safety and well being than I would Cuba, Iran or any other tyrannical regime. Once you are dealing with human beings, all bets are off.

This only matters 1/10th as much as all those evil southern redneck racists in the military and their treatment of blacks because FDR was the greatest Democrat President since Barrack Obama. Remember kids, racism or violations of the Constitution only matter if Republicans do it.

Let's not forget the Supreme Court ruled that this was fine and dandy.

A civil war in the US will be played by the press as the 'Heroes' against baby murdering terrorists...and the sheeple will buy it in the big cities.

Dredd Scott, etc. The Supreme Court's record is far from blemish free. Again though, made up of humans driven by the same passions and biases the world over, and across time. So all of the statists who feel secure giving the Government full control over their lives better be careful.

Santa Anita racetrack was one of the internment camps in So Cal and I always got a creepy feeling when I went there. It is still hard for me to believe.

Mom is 82 yr old from Japan. She wasn't here for that but she goes to church (actually Buddhist temple) with some survivors. Most of them are very well adjusted and still love this country...but they're going away fast. And to think we have people in this country who have had everything given to them and still hate this place. Unbelievable.

Because of these well-documented atrocities against clearly-defined ethnic groups (Jews, Native Americans, Japanese-Americans, etc), most of the "Never Again!" crowd automatically assume that it will be another 'oppressed minority' that will be rounded up into camps - even as they are enthusiastically supporting the people setting the machinery for such an action in place.

Try to imagine a government led by the likes of Barrack Obama, John Boehner, Hillary Clinton, Mitch McConnell, Harry Reid, John McCain, Patty Murray, or Marco Rubio taking such action against, say, undocumented Mexicans or fundamentalist Muslims. It just isn't going to happen.

That said - now imagine that same group crusading against "anti-statists"...THAT, my friends, will be the next target demo for dispossession.

Was curious about exactly what SCOTUS ruled on.

Looks like SCOTUS ruled on a single aspect of the internment (the exclusion orders, which allowed the military to relocate those people of Japanese decent living near military zones), and in that ruling they did side with the government.

That ruling, while never overturned, has been disavowed by the Department of Justice (in 2011 !?!?).

Not that this is any consolation whatsoever to the Japanese who were interred, nor does it offer any guarantee whatsoever that it won't happen again.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korematsu_v....

So yea, this just shows that SCOTUS will go along with whatever bull**** reason the executive branch comes up with next time.

Karl, thank you for posting this. Last year I took my kids to the remnants of one of the camps here in S California. There are libertarians on this site who do not view the government as part of "we"; rather more as an occupying army. In that light, about a month ago there was an article somewhere in the blogasphere about a Japanese American who did not go peacefully and ended up having to run off to Canada to avoid imprisonment. He had just passed away. He was not the only one and there were Americans who fought against this tyranny, just as you and others on this site continue to fight against tyranny today. Not everyone, as you know, is a sheeple.

People are willingly blind

You bring this up, sprinkle in other things like Tuskegee, nerve gas experiments etc etc and all 99% of the people will say.

Well we learned our lesson. We have protections in place now. IOW they do not give a **** as they think _they_ will be spared, they will be the wavers.

Nicely done.

And while I'm concerned about NDAA, I'm also concerned about some state governments rounding up formerly law-abiding residents who won't submit to arbitrary demands they surrender their guns.

Wondered if anyone has read that. She's done some good work in some areas, but this - I could never wrap my head around.

Probably a low blow, but has anyone asked her if her niece (who disappeared a while back) might have been "interned"?
