Oh boy...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-In-Hand-Unlocked-BlackBerry-Z10-BB-BE-THE-FIRST-/271147876917?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item3f21ac4235

Want one now?  Just $1,500 and it can be yours (or more, if the bidding keeps going.)

This sort of thing hasn't been seen since the Apple original iPhone.  Further, there are multiple reports coming from Britain and other places where the phone has been released that vendors are getting extremely strong pre-sales orders (far beyond their expectations) or are refusing to sell a "naked" phone without a contract plan, despite the fact that this is commonly the case in Europe.  Again, this points to very strong demand.

Those who believed there was going to be no end-user demand for this handset may be about to be proved dramatically and catastrophically wrong.

ill never understand why people bid up the price on commodity electronics hardware where the manufacturer will make as many as the market will bear.

Not at $1,500. But yeah, I'm probably going to get one.

If I were to get a mobile phone (don't currently have one), I'd take a long look at a new Blackberry.

I have the Playbook and love it...hope all these new apps for the phones find their way to becoming apps for the Playbook.

$1500? R-I-P-O-F-F

From a user experience perspective, I just don't see the compelling story to get this over an Android handset, or even the iCrap.

Demand may be strong, but it probably won't do much for the stock. Wall Street despises the company now.

In the long run even the most despotic governments with all their brutality and cruelty are no match for ideas. Eventually the ideology that has won the support of the majority will prevail and cut the ground from under the tyrant's feet and rise in rebellion to overthrow their masters.

Seen enough based on the the features and UI comments from the 8 reviews I have seen. And they have all been consistent. My first hurdle, is that I am not interested in the UI experience that the BB Z10 is offering. It just seems like a big hassle. Then go from there.

I think it is apparent that, in the future, Google wants to both offer handsets as well as mobile service. So the field may expand to the Big 4?

BB has a lot of hill to roll that rock up in the form of Apple and Android. We shall see. Good luck to them.

(As an aside, I hope this at least turns up the competition heat for all involved, to the benefit of the consumer in lower priced, faster gear. Intel sat on their asses until AMD and Cyrix came along, and the arms race among them fueled a PC CPU boom. I hope to see the same here.)

I don't get this either, for a casual end user, what does the BB10 offer that existing phones don't? For businesses, yes, I understand the interest.

I still don't understand Rims reluctance to opening GAPPS fully. Now that I have had my Note 2 for 3 months, it's going to be hard to do without some of the apps. I know I can side load, but updating side loaded apps is a hassle.

Android is a huge hairball internally, and beyond redemption. I've ported it so I know exactly what it looks like -- AOSP is arguably one of the more-stupid things Google ever did, as it let anyone who wants to look behind the curtain at their code development and vetting process.

It ain't pretty.

Hate will have nothing to do with it. If they start showing earnings the stock will go up. It's still trading significantly below book.

The Ticker is not a trading tout sheet. I talk about various entry points and trades in both Ticks and my nightlies.

Wall Street might hate the stock so they can get it cheap. When they are hyping, they are selling. America is made up of carnival barkers. Ever go to a NBA game? A damn circus.

BTW, the yen is on or near the bottom of the trend channel and close to the measurement of the H&S top. I'm going to play it to my pain threshold, which depends on what day I get up. I have always loved to try to catch a falling safe. The wave count looks close to done. I wouldn't try this at home, because there is good chance I'm going to eat 100 points and come up empty. The channel has pretty well held for over 2000 points and where it actually lies is guesswork. The wavers all say there is another big move up in the yen. Remember, Bennie is printing like crazy and the JCB said they might do it next year. Japan has the only major nearly liquidated stock market on earth, major brand names. Counter argument? Government broke and dependent on ZIRP, population aging, China a threat. That can be said for the entire world.

BlackBerry welcomes more than 1000 of the top app partners with relevant, local content from every region of the globe

Jan 31, 2013

Waterloo, ON – A phenomenal lineup of top brands and applications have committed to the BlackBerry® 10 platform, giving the new platform the strongest content offering of any first generation mobile platform at launch. Yesterday at the BlackBerry 10 launch event in New York, BlackBerry® (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) announced that 1000 of the top app partners will be making their applications available on the BlackBerry® World™ storefront. The partners range from leaders in social media to the top games, sports, productivity, lifestyle apps, and more.

BlackBerry Vice President of Global Alliances and Business Development, Martyn Mallick took to the stage yesterday to showcase some of applications committed to BlackBerry 10, and attendees were able to play with some of the applications for the new platform.

“Being able to announce 1000 of the top app partners is a testament to the strength of BlackBerry 10, the ease of developing for this powerful new platform, and the remarkable opportunity that it represents for developers and brands alike,” said Mallick. “We have focused on bringing the most relevant apps to BlackBerry 10 – whether they are global leaders in their categories, or whether they are regional must-have apps. We are thrilled and want to thank all the developers that have shown such strong support of a platform before it has commercially launched. We share in their excitement and belief in BlackBerry 10.”...

I see a lot of people making negative comments on the youtube videos, but to tell you the truth I like it. I'm starting to get sick of my android phone, I hate how presentation is now front and center instead of functionality. I find myself these days deleting most of my apps as they are completely useless.

Karl - I just mean from an honest reporting / blog perspective (not from trading guidance). Most writers put a disclosure statement of their position they are commenting on. You usually do it too.

For what it's worth:

BBRY is trading up in PM by 5%

According to channel checks conducted by Jefferies & Co., preorders in the United Arab Emirates and Canada have so far been “solid.” More encouraging, though, are early reports from the U.K., where Z10 sales are evidently off to a good start. Jefferies analyst Peter Misek reports lines outside a number of U.K .retailers selling the device, and says that sell-outs of the white Z10 have been widespread. The black Z10 is easier to come by, but Misek says that with that device, too, stocks are limited.

“We believe Carphone Warehouse is seeing widespread sell-outs, while O2, Vodafone, Orange and EE are seeing robust demand,” Misek explained. “We estimate sell-in to be at least several hundred thousand units.”

Bernstein raised the stock to "outperform" with a $22 target. They clearly think the phone will sell.
