The NRA Finds Its Balls

It's about damned time.

The NRA finally discovered that their name -- National RIFLE Association -- means the support of people who want to keep and bear arms.

It took Newtown, where all the laws in the world didn't matter and wouldn't have, because the shooter committed murder to get his guns, to finally wake them up.

Never mind that all the previous similar incidents of mass-shootings, all but one of which have taken place in putative "gun free zones", demonstrated conclusively months and years ago that once someone is willing to commit murder they will disrespect all other laws -- they are then looking only for the easiest and least-defensible target.

Never mind that those screaming the loudest for "gun control" from the political class are those who have the most guns themselves, either personally or in the hands of those hired by them, specifically for the purpose of deterring anyone who might commit aggression against them.

Never mind that the Declaration of Independence clearly states that all men are created equal, and that if The President, Speaker of the House, Vice-President or any other member of Congress, a Mayor of a city, or anyone else has the right to arms for their lawful defense then by their own standards and their own demonstrated belief in the real nature of such threats, potential, imagined or real, so does everyone else and of like kind and quantity.

The NRA has finally thrown down the marker on the media as well, excoriating (and justly so) the media's propensity to dance on dead bodies, especially the dead bodies of children, providing the very attention that the sick bastards crave.  The worst part of it is that the media *****s do this for profit and political motive; witness the utter lack of coverage over the hundreds of Mexicans who our nation's gun running to drug lords killed.  Where is the nightly news coverage on a daily basis of that story?

I don't know if the NRA reads Tickers, but they should -- and so should you.

Start with this one.

It's time to cut the crap and it's a nice surprise this morning to see the NRA doing exactly that.

Oh, as to how to pay for the armed security in our schools?  That's easy: Fire one administrator per school and use that person's salary.

Gen, I am happily surprised to see they didn't fold and give more "rights" away.

I heard a rousing call for censorship and nothing about letting teachers, parents, or students carry. I'm not celebrating this one.

Anyone got a video? I was trying to listen to it on the radio, but Bill Carroll thought his commentary was more important than listening to the whole speech.

The hypocritical leftists are already bashing the NRA's statement. Despite Barbara Boxer calling for the National Guard to post in our schools or worse, Diane Feinstein wanting to ban guns while she is one of the ellite few who have a CCW license in San Fran.
I hate them all.

If the NRA had thrown gun owners under the bus, CNN would have been blaring the headline on its front page. Instead they are completely silent on the issue. Nary a mention of the NRA press conference when they were running articles in the previous few days salivating in their speculation that the NRA would acquiesce to more restrictive laws limiting our rights.

The NRA reiterated Karls post about the hypocrites having security and have no right judging gun owners. They did a good job on using logic and common sense on this issue. I loved it when he went after Obama for cutting security funds to the schools. Bravo

Similar to what I suggested yesterday:

http://home.nra.org/#

Excerpt:

Ladies and gentlemen, there is no national, one-size-fits-all solution to protecting our children. But do know this President zeroed out school emergency planning grants in last year's budget, and scrapped "Secure Our Schools" policing grants in next year's budget.

With all the foreign aid, with all the money in the federal budget, we can't afford to put a police officer in every school? Even if they did that, politicians have no business — and no authority — denying us the right, the ability, or the moral imperative to protect ourselves and our loved ones from harm.

Now, the National Rifle Association knows that there are millions of qualified active and retired police; active, reserve and retired military; security professionals; certified firefighters and rescue personnel; and an extraordinary corps of patriotic, trained qualified citizens to join with local school officials and police in devising a protection plan for every school. We can deploy them to protect our kids now. We can immediately make America's schools safer — relying on the brave men and women of America's police force.

The budget of our local police departments are strained and resources are limited, but their dedication and courage are second to none and they can be deployed right now.

I call on Congress today to act immediately, to appropriate whatever is necessary to put armed police officers in every school — and to do it now, to make sure that blanket of safety is in place when our children return to school in January.

[snip}

The NRA is going to bring all of its knowledge, dedication and resources to develop a model National School Shield Emergency Response Program for every school that wants it. From armed security to building design and access control to information technology to student and teacher training, this multi-faceted program will be developed by the very best experts in their fields.

Former Congressman Asa Hutchinson will lead this effort as National Director of the National School Shield Program, with a budget provided by the NRA of whatever scope the task requires. His experience as a U.S. Attorney, Director of the Drug Enforcement Agency and Undersecretary of the Department of Homeland Security will give him the knowledge and expertise to hire the most knowledgeable and credentialed experts available anywhere, to get this program up and running from the first day forward.

If we truly cherish our kids more than our money or our celebrities, we must give them the greatest level of protection possible and the security that is only available with a properly trained — armed — good guy.

Idaknow. Another big Gov't program to provide armed security?

Something that could be solved by the citizens themselves, and in greater numbers, Locally.

Yeah, that's what I suggested yesterday, but there are issues that need to be resolved with that. Also, I'm sure the NRA realizes that the anti-gun audience is a bunch of brain-dead statists who think more government is the answer to everything.

What does the GOA actually do? I'm being serious. Larry Pratt is frequently a guest on various radio shows, but I really have no idea what he/they do otherwise.

In 1997 Dr. Hupp was awarded the National Rifle Association's Sybil Ludington Women's Freedom Award for her tireless efforts on behalf on the successful passage of "shall issue" concealed carry laws in Texas and many other states.

On a Bright and Sunny Day
The Making of a Champion for Concealed Carry Laws
by Jeff Stanley
July 4, 2008

As she sat down for lunch at a popular cafeteria in Killeen, Texas, Dr. Suzanna Gratia-Hupp could never have guessed the event that was about to change her life forever.

"I was with my parents," she would recall in front of one of the many
legislative committees where she would later testify, "At noon, on a bright sunny day, in Luby's, with a hundred and forty other people, in a town that's not a high crime town."

Without warning, George Jo Hennard crashed his Ford Ranger pickup through the establishment's front window. He was armed with two 9mm pistols, a Glock 17 and a Ruger P89. He exited his vehicle shouting, "This is what Bell County has done to me!"

The day afterward, October 17, 1991, under the headline, "Bloodbath in Killeen," Houston Chronicle reporter Cindy Rugeley described what Hennard did next, based on witnesses' accounts.

"He calmly and methodically strolled through the cafeteria, randomly shooting innocent people as they crouched under tables. Often he would stick the gun at a victim's head or body and fire."

Dr. Hupp remembers, "My father and I immediately put the table up in front of us and we all got down behind it. And you know, your first opinion is, 'Is this guy robbing this place? What's the deal?' Then you're realizing that all he's doing is simply shooting people."

As she and her parents, Al and Ursula Gratia, tried to hunker down out of the line of fire, Dr. Hupp reached into her purse for the .38 Smith & Wesson revolver that she carried, at the time illegally...

Was watching MSNBS for their take - they figured he strengthened the argument for more gun control as he basically said "we all have targets on our backs so we should all carry guns" - I expected no less.

Well at least the NRA decided to flex a little muscle here rather than acting like puny little wimps. But again they miss the mark by not promoting responsible gun ownership and protection by law abiding citizens. Yes we can have armed security in our schools but better would be to arm and train a select group of school administration for that task. They should be promoting tearing down “gun-free” zones at schools and gun ownership but they seem to be punch drunk on law enforcement for protection.

JPFO still cleans their clocks though.
