Free Book Alert!

Released November 10, 2012 - Prequel to Vatican Gold (coming in 2014).

WHEN CONTROL OF THE VATICAN IS AT STAKE, MONEY TALKS AND NOBODY PLAYS FAIR.

When Italian intelligence specialist Michael Visconte investigates the murder of a Jesuit priest, the priest turns out to be a hedge fund manager with an unblemished record of extraordinary returns. Although the Pope rules the Vatican sovereign state as the ultimate oligarchy, the Jesuits ask Visconte, their former student, to help them bring justice. Michael soon finds himself in the middle of a struggle for power and control over the finances of the Vatican. But his lucky break—one that should provide critical evidence—only blurs the lines between good and evil and endangers the lives not only of Michael and the Jesuits but of his wife and children.

ARCHANGELS: RISE OF THE JESUITS is financial expert Janet Tavakoli’s fiction debut.

Thanks for the tip - always enjoy adding to the library.

And as a recovering catholic, a good Vatican murder mystery is something I can enjoy. Too bad it's "fiction" - or is it? :-O

<shrug> Why even bother to write or read books about them? The church is now in a state where finding a honest priest seems to be more of an exception than a rule, and even if you find one, he'll be far away from any position of influence.

So just ignore it, and seek God directly instead of trying to find Him through corrupt intermediaries. You can read the Bible (or Qur'an, Talmud, Bhagavad-Gita or other religious book of your preference) without having to listen to any priest.

Maybe join some smaller organization, if you can find one where other honest and religious people are the majority, and associate with them.

Leave large, bureaucratic religious monstrosities in the dustbin of history. If no one goes there, they'll become as relevant as an old page from a history book.

Jesus never organized anything like Catholic church (or Orthodox or any similar). He never established a complex system of ranks and titles, fancy clothes and symbols, or formalized rituals.

Reason: changing typo: "not in a state" to "now in a state"

Got it Karl. Thanks for the heads up. Another great book I liked on the Catholic Church is Vicars of Christ. It discusses the Popes (and their families).

I'm amazed at the Catholics that have no idea of the history of the Popes. These have been some of the most evil people in history (as the Borgia family).

I'm not. It is drilled into their heads repeatedly that their religious belief is a matter of faith, and asking inconvenient questions or searching out extraneous info is sacrilegious. I was raised Catholic and that's how I was treated by multiple priests/nuns/parishes. Needless to say that didn't sit well with me even as a child, and as an adult I eschewed Catholicism.

My Mom (practicing Catholic) was shocked and scandalized by the premise of The Da Vinci Code. I couldn't believe she had NO idea whatsoever that the theory that Christ had a child(ren) was already well-circulated way before the book was published.
