FAIL! (Petitions to Secede)

From the often-whacked-out Examiner:

As of Saturday November 10, 2012, 15 States have petitioned the Obama Administration for withdrawal from the United States of America in order to create its own government.

States following this action include: Louisiana, Texas, Montana, North Dakota, Indiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, Colorado, Oregon and New York. These States have requested that the Obama Administration grant a peaceful withdrawal from the United States.

FAIL.

You do not ask for permission to secede.

You simply do it, and tell the overarching government you formerly adhered to that if they don't like it they're welcome to attempt to force you to return.

Generally speaking, of course, it's a pretty good idea to figure out how you're going to respond if they do make such an attempt and be prepared for it before making that statement, because sometimes they will.

New Jersey and New York??? No way in hell they secede from Obamaland. All the others, there could be a chance.

IMO, just like in Spain, Greece and around the EU in general, as the situation becomes worse and nothing is fixed and the corruption just continues, REAL secession movements will grow and grow, kicking the sellouts aside (Perry and most of these governors who just do it for political capital when they in fact oppose it) and going really for secession.

Secession/civil war will likely happen, but not yet.

and how much do these states get in funny money from the US? And how many federal workers are there in these states? Trading one giant poorly run government for a smaller poorly run government, whatever.

I don't think it's entirely useless. Sometimes crazy ideas or suspicions are necessary to keep the government paying attention. While this may be nothing more now than "we want you to know we are angry", something like increasing numbers on these petitions would get noticed.

It would be a lot better if we return to the behavior of a constitutional republic with sovereign states via agreement, than via failure.

Sorry this isn't a petition by those states. These are folks posting stuff online. If this was a bill in these States or a referendum ballot vote, or anything resembling action by the state entity or representative of those states...

This is the same thing as if someone wrote that KD spoke on behalf of Florida. He's not in any position to speak for the state.

I'm about done with these Obama voters. I'm going to vote with my feet and give all my business, as much as possible, to non-union, non-Obama voting establishments. They're about to find out how cheap and chisely Obama voters really are.

I think these are petitions started by individuals. Not states. I'm surprised anyone took this seriously.

I thought there was an official procedure for secession, but I don't remember where I saw it
1. state legislature votes to secede
2. US Congress votes on it (good luck with that)
The US would bomb any state into oblivion if it had to.

Of course IL and CA are two states that will fight the succession. They need bailout donors.

IMO the 17th amendment is the worst Amendment ever ratified for the US Constitution as its the biggest obstacle to fixing what ails the USA. If it were repealed today then all this nonsense of the Congress wouldn't stand as easily. What I'd rather see than succession movements is for the fiscally responsible States demanding that the "little guy" no longer be subject to direct regulation/taxation/services by the federal government but to instead have the state government pay its share of the "federal" liabilities on behalf of the "little guy" and in turn have them all regulated/taxed/served by well-run state governments w/o all the bureaucracy BS that idemnify the "little guy". And in turn the smart municipalities/counties could in turn do some idemnification program for their localities in order to simplify the red tape, overhead, and services for the "little guy".

Hahahah! Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. I hate to think of the desperate straits in which we might find ourselves if - gasp - Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia decided to leave. What? No South Carolina on the list yet? Somebody better call DeMint, stat!!

"Talk is cheap. As soon as the federal bennies got whacked they'd all scream like stuck hogs,"

Indeed. Though its been fun watching the progressives here in the Portland area blame all the hicks in southern oregon for their crappy economy when its their watermelon greenie laws that have screwed over the rural parts of the state. The anger on a few news sites/blogs was the typical anti-gun, anti-tea party, anti rednecks for folks voting down new taxes to keep the cops afloat in Joesphine county. Local citizen groups were arming up and dealing with the minor and not so minor crime themselves.

The Bend area got a Facebook data center recently. Once it was running the state gov came along and wanted more taxes. The Portland progressives and their union masters have gotten new taxes measures passed in the last 3-4 years that have just driven business out. Yet somehow the hicks are supposed to transition to some new economy to make ends meet. The susan saradon types want it to be eco-tourism along with healthcare for the retirees in the area. We all know how well that has and will work out.

I had some college girl, supposedly from Eugene at my door yesterday begging me to let her company/group give my carpets a free shampoo, with "no obligation". She pushed for a good 3-4 minutes before finally backing down. Lesson learned, I'll just shut the door on those types next time after a "no thanks, have a nice day". Her pleas of "we have to do 20 of these today", (to get paid was the implication). Welcome to the Obama economy sweetie.

Other than California, probably less than is extracted from the people who live in those states through federal taxes.

Me, I'd like to see less this:

The number of signatures on those petitions is so small it's a non-event. Why do you even bother reporting on that?

Western PA has more in common with Ohio than with NY, New England or even Philadelphia. Not to mention you can't have the confluence of the Ohio River in one country and the rest of it in another.
