It's pretty simple, really.
There is a long history in Presidential elections, and the Muslims are not stupid -- The American people typically will not change a President during a significant armed conflict or other time of material international disruption.
Think about it.
And then consider this -- Obama is as about as friendly to radical Muslims as a US President could ever be without inviting them to the White House for his daily security briefings and giving them the keys to our arms depots.
So we have escalation now, with the intent of drawing in the United States and driving outrage here at home.
If that is achieved, the bet is, the American people will not "take a risk" with Romney.
I'm willing to bet the Muslims are scared to death that Romney's first act will likely be to pull a Reagan as he is rumored to have done with Iran when he won election, telling the Iranians that if the hostages were still being held when his hand went on the Bible they were going to find out about the truth of that 72 virgins in paradise schtick roughly 15 minutes later.
I betcha that's the calculation -- this is not about a "movie" or anything else -- and that would nicely explain the mealy-mouth crap coming from Obama and Hillary too.
The bottom line is that they're both so craven that keeping their job is far more important than anything else -- like, for instance, the lives of our embassy staffers.
We already know what they think of The Constitution.
I'll also bet that Congress doesn't have the balls to stand up and cut off the money to all these nations either.

ewww... I concur with that line of thinking K. Sort of explains the liberal media bias against Romney (edit: on his statements and politicization of the Libyan embassy). Among conservative pro-israeli jews, Romney/Ryan are well received.
But you see... the President has to do something about the problem. He has to take action. Maybe just maybe if he leads us confidently through this dark day we will decide not change captains mid journey. If he does nothing about it... this will be Obama's downfall.
How did this strategy work in getting Carter reelected?
Eh... May be just what I needed to vote.... Maybe... Romney and Obama are one in the same and NO presidential candidate is even talking about what needs to be talked about so a vote for one is a vote for all...

I always thought that the reason the hostages were released was because Carter bought the Iranians off with the $7.977 billion in the Bank of England that he had released. I would be interested in reading any sources that refer to backchannel comms between Reagan and the Iranians threatening a strike.

Just heard.... supposedly the chosen on has not receive an intelligence briefing since Sept 5. Also he has missed half of all of them over the course of his presidency. That is okay though becuase he reads them on his own and he is the greatest consumer of intelligence in history.

I think it's mostly about the Muslim Brotherhood and other fundies flexing their muscles in order to consolidate their power base as they fill the political vacuum left by the Arab spring.
Since it's a cinch that the ragheads are incapable of self rule, America's poobahs gotta decide whether to back the strong men or the fundies. The 'Bamster, clearly, backs the fundies. First time that has happened, and well. I guess he's already seeing how well it's working out for him...
Why would you expect him to attend an intel briefing, he doesn't have time for that, he has campaigning to do. Get real.
Besides after he wins in Nov, he doesn't even need Intel briefs at all, it's just a smooth cruise for 4 years of partying just like his idol slick Willy

When people are coming out three and a half years after signing up here to make their first post...you must be onto something. My only question is how they stayed silent back when you and everyone with a brain was debunking the birth certificate. I suppose some of the bots were meant to stay dormant for future crises.

Thatstockguy, sounds like a middle eastern "Fast and Furious" round two. We probably got hit with our own ****. What I question is why they blamed a planned 9/11 military operation on a spontaneous outrage over a film. The film appears to be a distraction. My bull**** meter is going off.

The real solution to the "Fanatical Islamist" and "Koran Beaters" problem is for us to get the hell out of the way and let them destroy each other.
They are real big on blaming others for the ****-holes they live in. I say we leave them alone to discover that it's not (primarily) the West that's ****ing them...it's their 11th Century interpretation/practice of their religion.
An all out pull-out of our military, businesses, banking and Western folk would leave them with nothing but each other...and they would rejoice that they have defeated Satan....and shortly thereafter the infighting and car bombings would begin.

Unless you care to provide a source for this "news"...oh, and Limbaugh is not a source...if you want to be taken seriously that is...oh, and one more thing...the President does not have to be physically sitting at a table in the White House to receive an intelligence briefing...and one more, more thing...Presidents have very full plates and unless the intelligence report is incredibly important/urgent/shattering, underlings will digest it and give the President an executive summary for review at his leisure.
