Yes, Sheriff, People Do Have a Limit

Arresting someone for getting high is not exactly smart when the bar down the street will legally sell you as much booze as you'd like to consume.  But that's what our so-called "war on (some) drugs" has turned into -- and in Vermont, it got one man rather*****ed off.

Working in a stout  former bank building with windows closed and air conditioners humming, Orleans  County sheriff's deputies didn't know what was happening in their parking lot  until a neighbor called 911.

A man on a big farm tractor, angry about his recent arrest for resisting  arrest and marijuana possession, was rolling across their vehicles -- five  marked cruisers, one unmarked car and a transport van.

So how long would this sort of crap law exist if every time someone was arrested for mere possession of marijuana their retribution was to take out $300 large worth of cop cars?

About 15 minutes.

Obviously the farmer who did this will face charges for the malicious destruction of property, but at the same time this is the sort of "push back" that unjust laws eventually provoke.

Never mind that the rest of the residents will likely have another reason to thank the now-jailed farmer -- it's damn hard to write all those speeding tickets when your cop cars look like pancakes, isn't it?

Government -- and laws -- exist only with the consent of the governed.  This man withdrew his consent.  Yes, he will be punished for that act, and he should be -- destruction of property (unless it's your own) is a crime.  Nonetheless the fact remains that at some point the cost of telling people what to do with their own bodies simply overwhelms the nanny state's ability to cover it through taxation, if the people decide that the line has been drawn in the wrong place.

I want you all to think about this differently.

Wars are won not by killing more of the enemy's soldiers but by making it financially impossible for the enemy to field an opposing force. BATTLES are won by killing, but if the enemy can't even show up, there's no battle.

The strategic bombing campaigns of WWII are the best and most obvious example. We didn't bomb troop concentrations, we bombed factories, rail heads, and power stations.

This man could very well have been thinking strategically. I want you to think of this as an example of very effective strategic action at an individual level. He didn't kill anyone.

Edit: these tactics are being used against us right now, as the banks and the political hacks and governments are kept rich and powerful, while our own lifeblood is slowly being drained away, and with it our ability to show up, our ability to resist, is being diminished. Imagine the state we'll be in after a few decades of this. There is a very clear message of "go along and get along" as the seats at the table become fewer, and more valuable.

Wonder how long it'll be before no one calls 911?

The majority of Americans were thoroughly disarmed long ago, though most retain the right to (and many do) own weapons. Think about it.

As you pointed out, wars are not only fought on a battlefield.

Wait for it, Homeland Security now has a reason to spend tax dollars on secured parking lots for all official vehicles.

I know our town will start one shortly after seeing this since the whole squad is parked out in plain sight.

The jury would be wise to acquit.

I would definitely find the guy not guilty if I was on that jury. Now, if there were pigs in the cars at the time...well, I'd still find him not-guilty. smiley

The system will simply take his farm, his house, his tractor and anything he owns in order to pay for this damage on one side...

... and on the other side they will increase taxes on everyone (in some form, regardless if it is called a tax, or a fee, or more government debt) to pay for extra protection for police vehicles (and vehicles of all the other government agencies).

No, this is not a strategic success. In war when you bomb the other side, they have to pay for the damage. Here it's the people that will be paying, and the police and government people won't pay a dime out of their own pockets. That way you won't ruin them financially; you will ruin yourselves.

They can simply borrow money from your pension fund, put govt bonds in the fund, pay for new cars, pay for walls etc around their parking lot, add some graft on top of that, and then in 20 years when time comes for you to get your pension there will be only next-to-worthless bonds in your fund. Bwa ha ha.

+1 to Sw's edit, we've been slowly drained for years.

Btw, what if he "borrowed" a neighbor's tractor and the neighbor refuses to press changes?

They would probably charge the neighbor as an accomplice if he didn't press charges :(

Ownership of the tractor, I believe it belongs to his parents. I wonder if it has been impounded?
If so I hope they get it back before they need it.
