Claims: 365,000

From the DOL:

In the week ending July 28 the advance figure for  seasonally adjusted initial claims was 365,000, an increase of 8,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 357,000. The 4-week moving average  was 365,500, a decrease of 2,750 from the previous week's revised average of  368,250.

Ok, so basically still in the "you're screwed" zone....

What's the big table tell us?

So basically we had a bit of improvement in regular claims (the ones that count) but the rolloff continues from the extended programs.

I still think we get a sub-100k number tomorrow; no changes.

I'm sure it's just "seasonal adjustments" again.

Why?

Because every season is unemployment season nowadays.

I just heard from a friend yesterday whom I've not spoken to in about a year. His family is so desperate for a job that they have just about sold everything they own (which is not a whole lot) and they are heading to North Dakota to find a job. Gotta love the Bush/Obama economy...

I doubt we'll get a legitimate number tomorrow and all today's losses will be tomorrow's gains in this rigged fake bull**** "market".......

In the long run even the most despotic governments with all their brutality and cruelty are no match for ideas. Eventually the ideology that has won the support of the majority will prevail and cut the ground from under the tyrant's feet and rise in rebellion to overthrow their masters.

What we really need is more regulation so nobody can run a business and make a profit. California seems to be the leader in this regard but Illinois is coming on strong.

Tesla, you are giving the politicians too much credit. There was more done in the Clinton administration to create this mess with his henchmen Robert Rubin and Larry Summers than could be fixed. Throw in Greenspan and we had a series of imploding bubbles. In truth, the housing bubble looked like a foam bubble compared to a transocean hot air balloon when compared to the 1999/2000 Nasdaq.

Politicians almost NEVER do things correctly. We are in this mess due to a series of moves over the past 100 years. I just saw an article lobbying for a $10 an hour minimum wage. I know it is hard to live on under $10 an hour, but it is even harder to live on zero, which is the true minimum wage. Look for unemployment to go to 12%.

The one difference between the stock bubble and the housing bubble was the actual debt tied into it. But, the housing bubble was manufactured by the Clinton administration and allowed to run under Bush, but mainly due to a deflationary drop in interest rates, setting in motion a speculative bubble. Politicians never turn down free money. Housing started breaking records in 1997 and every year after until 2005 or so. I fully expected the economy to collapse in 2000. They pulled another stick save. There is nothing left this time but to keep putting money into the system to loot.
