jduwalt,
that might be an interesting question to actually ask rahm at a press conference, as certainly muslims are less pro gay than just about anybody.
on a side note, i got a warning not to continue to this site when i signed in because of something about the security certificate. anybody else get that? i ignored it obviously and had no trouble.

Not a huge fan of bbq sauce on sandwiches (of any time) and stuff but I love the polynesian, honey mustard, ranch and those huge ketchup packets that you only need one of for your entire meal and still have leftover ketchup.

I had he kids over today. I help my sisters by watching their children occasionally during the summer. We had all 8 of them at the house so I ordered the catering platter of chicken strips - 40 pieces. Normally we go with pizza when the kids show up but da Mayor inspired me to give CFA a little extra business today.

This is blatantly unconsitutional.
Basically, what the Chick Filet CEO said was he doesn't believe in same sex marriages. Last I heard, the US doesn't recognize them either, and only 6 states do, not including Illinois.
So if Chick Filet wanted to do something about it, seems like that's the position they should take. Business is being discriminated against due to the owner's opinions echoing the legal position of the Federal government and the state of Illinois.

Send me a razzly bone in the email. I don eat meat but I love gizzard soup. Los Pollos Hermanos is a fast food restaurant chain that specializes in chicken. The English translation of the name is "The Chicken Brothers." Gus Fring is the co-founder and owner with fourteen locations throughout the southwest. Gus uses this legitimate business to aid in his shipment and distribution of drugs, specifically crystal methamphetamine. I tried to tell my staunch democrat of an Aunt that what her beloved Rahm and the mayor of Boston is doing is unconstitutional. She stated the main reason why CFA is in the hot seat is because they contributed to antigay groups, not because of what was said, but because a hate crime MIGHT be committed against a gay person. To which I responded as did Best Buy, Target, Exxon and Anthropologie. They all contributed to antigay groups or to so called antigay candidates. So, you're condemning a company for something that may or may not happen. Should I ban Dodge because I may or may not get into an accident today? She still doesn't get it. She feels all fast food should be banned and shut down because it is unhealthy. She is very much government intervention for everything...and we're related :/

http://www.bostonherald.com/news/opinion....You just gotta love M******* Libartd Boston Tom Menino logic: I prefer traditional aka only man and woman marriage. You're a bigot ! We banish you ! FFFFUUUUUUUU Gays should be thrown from roof and/or burned. You are welcome in out city ! Here have some land at below market prices ! Teh Ghey Studpid is burning... Quote:Radical imam OK but not Chick-fil-A
Given his stance on Chick-fil-A, would Mayor Tom Menino grant permits to a group that has counted among its leaders a man who has repeatedly called homosexuality a “crime that must be punished” by death?
Actually, he has done that  . . . and more! Menino effectively gave away city land valued at $1.8 million to the organization, and he gave a speech at its ribbon-cutting ceremony.
It’s the Islamic Society of Boston’s mosque, and when it comes to anti-gay sentiment, one of its early supporters makes Chick-fil-A look like the Provincetown Men’s Chorus.
During the (understandable) controversy over the city selling land for a house of worship at a below-market rate a decade ago, reporters discovered that the Islamic Society of Boston counted imam Yusef al-Qaradawi as one of its spiritual guides. As the Weekly Standard reported at the time:
“The ISB does not dispute the fact that they have repeatedly used al-Qaradawi as a tool to raise funds for the Boston mosque, printing a brochure that highlighted al-Qaradawi’s enthusiastic support of the mosque and playing a videotaped message of support from him at a 2002 gathering.”
Also in attendance at the gathering, listening to al-Qaradawi’s message: Mayor Tom Menino.
Outside Boston, al-Qaradawi is better known as a vocal supporter of terrorism who teaches a hard-core version of Islam. His claim to fame as a “progressive” is that he was the first prominent imam to urge women to become suicide bombers, too.
It was only when his terror support became known that the Islamic Society of Boston announced that epeated listings of al-Qaradawi as an ISB trustee had been a mistake.
But nobody’s accusing Chick-fil-A of supporting terrorism — just traditional marriage (I think liberals still see the former as more dangerous). Menino heard the president of the company call same-sex marriage a “sin,” and he announced it would not be allowed to do business in Boston.
OK, Mr. Mayor. But when you gave all that land to the ISB at a song, here’s what imam al-Qaradawi was teaching:
“[A homosexual should be given] the same punishment as any sexual pervert  . . . Some say we should throw them from a high place, like God did with the people of Sodom. Some say we should burn them.”
According to the Anti-Defamation League, “In 2003 Qaradawi stated on IslamOnline that the punishment of homosexuality is the death penalty.”
In the end, says the anti-Islamist organization MEMRI, al-Qaradawi came down on the side of stoning.
Hey — say what you want about Chick-fil-A, but they aren’t trying to kill anyone. Other than, perhaps, via hardening of the arteries.
Chick-fil-A wants to come to Boston, pay taxes and put people to work. Menino says “no” because the CEO thinks same-sex marriage is wrong.
But that same mayor was all but giving away city land to the Islamic Society of Boston, even as they were presenting as one of their spiritual guides an imam who says homosexuals should be killed.
And this makes sense . . . how?
The mayor’s office did not respond to my repeated requests for an explanation of this apparent double standard yesterday. However, the mayor did finally admit that his threats against Chick-fil-A were empty. Other than sending a letter to the restaurant’s potential landlord asking that they be turned away, he has no power to stop them from legally conducting business in Boston.
So why did he say otherwise?
“I make mistakes all the time,” he told the Herald. “That’s a Menino-ism.”
When even you admit your own name is a synonym for “Boy, that was dumb,” it’s time to start re-thinking before you speak.

Crabby, you might quote your auntie this by Niemoller 1892-1984
First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.
And remind her that during most statist cleansing or purging, the liberals & the intellectuals were the first to be thrown out of a plane over the ocean.
If she isn't willing to stand up against thought police, then she can go ahead and take a number, because she will get to the front of the line soon enough.

This is a natural consequence of the right's war on LGBT people. It was only a matter of time before the Lefties used the Right's own tools against them.
In short, if it's constitutional for the state and local governments to ignore the 14th Amendment's equal protection clause and deny a marriage license to a same-sex couple in an act of power politics, it's also constitutional for a state or local government to ignore the 14th Amendment's application of the 1st Amendment (which originally applied ONLY to Federal government) and deny a business license to a controversial business in an act of power politics.
The Right have created the very precedent being used to deny them their own rights.

Gee Brian, in the entire recorded history of the world marriage has been between a male and a female, and you want to say that just recently "the right" makes up these discriminatory attitudes about LGBT marriage that the left needs to dismantle ?
What a tool. I recommend that you undo your recto-cranial inversion pronto.

"in the entire recorded history of the world marriage has been between a male and a female"
Nope. But I don't want to waste too much time trying to reach willfully ignorant cultural and sociological illiterates who believe that the monogamous nuclear family is an institution dating back more than about 3/4 of a century. Ultimately, if you choose to be ignorant, that's your choice.
It's undeniable, however, that if "states' rights" can deny someone a marriage license based on arbitrary criteria like the fictional claim I've quoted, then "states' rights" can also deny someone a business license based on similar arbitrary criteria that are labelled "community standards."
You can't demand freedom for yourself if you're not willing to allow others to have it. Essentially, those on the Left and Right making the argument for an "exception" for their preferred form of authoritarianism are merely the mirror image of each other.
Not surprisingly, the "total freedom for me, regulation and censure for thee" position doesn't get much traction for principle, and is woefully inadequate as a basis for arguments about "da Constuhtooshun."
"i called rahm emanuel the tony montana of politics"
Too much credit. He's just another demagogue.
Of course, both "sides" will scream about "freedom" while justifying their own efforts to ensure others don't have it. That's why their "outrage" amuses me so. They don't even know what freedom is!
To be honest, I'd be lying if I said there wasn't schadenfreude in watching the ironic spectacle of right-wing "states' rights" advocates in this situation scream bloody murder, invoke the feds, and demand that an "activist court" step in to "overrule the will of a democratically-elected institution" to "define the community's standards."

Ironically, marriage licenses in the US were originally designed specifically for discrimination, i.e. to prevent whites from marrying non-whites. This came about after the Civil War. Rolling back government intervention would eliminate those problems. Statists will never see it that way and will always clamor for more of that which caused the problem in the first place, the government.

Did my 90 mile motorcycle ride today, ate a tasty meal at the nearest Chick-Fil-A. Great (and I do mean great) service. Food was good but a bit pricey for what I ate. Only too glad to add to their bottom line. For the record, I disagree with the owner's positions but support their right to hold and express them publicly *and* operate businesses. People can boycott them to their hearts content, but I draw the line at government officials infringing on constitutionally-guaranteed rights of those who hold unpopular opinions (um.. hello... our host, and most of the posters on this form hold unpopular opinions... will Rahm E. come after Market-Ticker.org next?) Ordinarily, I'd not have patronized them but Emanuel's actions are petty tyranny, nothing less. Pcaldallas wrote..Ironically, marriage licenses in the US were originally designed specifically for discrimination, i.e. to prevent whites from marrying non-whites. Statists will never see it that way and will always clamor for more of that which caused the problem in the first place, the government. Bingo. Thanks for pointing out that fact. I looked up California's early anti-miscegenation laws a few years back and I just can't understand why rational people *want* the state to have this power. They *think* it's best but ultimately, when the state has this arbitrary power, it'll be used against you at some point. I wonder where supporters think the state gets its power to decide who can marry whom. Since state and federal government powers are delegated from the people, that is. Do *you* have the power to prohibit your male neighbor from marrying two women? Yeah? Where did you get that power?
