"It's not like it's doom and gloom. There are ways to do this. It just has to be reasonable men that we elected to do it".

Holy ****. Show me one reasonable man in the club of 535. Is there even one who is willing to pull a Ross Perot and have a real discussion with the American people with charts and diagrams containing real numbers?

There's not even one valid plan on the table to change anything. The Stupid Committee failed and now there's a damn good chance of zero budget cuts in January as promised when they raised the debt ceiling by $2T.

How could this not end in disaster? There's absolutely no one in the cockpit as we fly @ 15000 ft through adverse weather conditions.

Karl,

Thanks, the brief comments at the end on housing are also to the point, but the best was:

"Politicians Have To Stop What They've Been Doing" ....."or the markets will do it for them..."

The problem is when.

Here is another good one if you have not seen it: "Funding Government by the Minute"

I don't think they SHOULD stop.

I mean, think about it. Say they run this train into the station, what happens next? The people most likely to get killed by the ensuing disorder are the FSA and the delusionals who have been brainwashed to support the FSA.

What's not to like about that engineered, politically-designed (by default) solution? Culling 20 percent of the population is the only short-term economic solution anyway, and this gets at the correct 20 percent.

Mo, when the FSA is cut off from their free ****, saying they will be very angry will be the understatement of the year. collapsing social-political system + angry mob = prime environment for another hitler.

I have little doubt the angry mob will be manipulated into a murderous one. as a member of an unpopular minority, this is slightly disturbing.

I understand all those fears djloche. But there's no way out of this without turning the FSA into an angry mob, whether the pols vote to cut the budget or they run the train into the station and the system just stops.

At least with the latter, the whole show will be over rather quickly, as Americans are armed to the teeth and aren't likely to put up with any mob violence that comes near their neighborhoods.

There will be no need for Hitler in this scenario as the FSA will get themselves killed in large numbers and will solve the problem themselves.

if they run the train into the station, you'll have an angry mob confused at where to direct their anger. All it takes is one popular politician to point his finger at another group of people and say, it's their fault, I can solve the problems, let's burn their houses to the ground and run them out of town, we'll be back in business without those _____ ! - and group think takes hold you have a Hitler scenario.

Well, let's imagine who the targets might be, djloche.

Say it's 'the rich', meaning the one percent. If the FSA went after them, oh well. A lot of them deserve to end up in the FSA's soup pots.

Who else are they gonna blame it on as a group?

Everyone who has more than they do, i.e., the middle class.

Marxists always target the middle class for elimination. Class warfare rhetoric may talk abut "the rich" or "the 1%", but once the violence gets started, the FSA are not going to attack bankers' or politicians' mansions. Those targets are hardened. No, it will be much easier to go after anyone who has two nickels to rub together, or as Gen has said, anyone returning from the grocery store with a full bag.

@Verrken - That was a good presentation until the end when he shows his true colors:

"We have made promises to retirees and our veterans that we need to keep." - Um no we don't, WE CAN'T

"...but we must stop making promises to future generations" -- sorry but that is just more of the same bull**** we hear from today's politicians. **** that.

Exposing shadow housing inventory

That will be the day. The fed wants to keep the housing recovery theme going and a controlled release of shadow inventory.

We need to help the public pensions at the State level. These are our firemen, police and teachers that have served our communities we need to give them the retirements they deserve. smiley

We are never going to do the right thing, ever. This only stops when we hit the brick wall.

This brings up a discussion that the country desperately needs to have, the whole idea of guaranteed pensions. Here are a couple of points I want to bring up;

One, when you really think about it, what is so great about being a fireman, policeman, or teacher? It is just a job that you've hopefully tried to do to the best of your ability, the same as you should for any other job that you accept.

Two, why do police and fireman, who don't need a college degree to get those jobs, get high pay and guaranteed high retirement? It is great compensation followed by great compensation which totals to over compensation.

Three, being a policeman or fireman is not nearly as dangerous as we are led to believe. Many occupations are more dangerous such as farming and of course teaching is about as safe an occupation as there is.

Four, and this is what gets my blood moving when I hear people defend guaranteed pensions, risk does not go away when you guarantee a pension. The pro-pension people mention all the benefits of having a guaranteed pension and how it reduces the risks to retirees but, they talk as if risk just magically goes away. I think we all know that the risk does not go away, it is 99% shifted to everyone who does not have a guaranteed pension. The 1% risk that is left is systemic failure when the 99% can't make the guarantee good. (OK, given today's reality my percentages might need some adjustment but you get the idea.)

Now, back to the original topic, Politicians need to stop what they've been doing, heck we might as well ask them to stop breathing: permanently. The whole government system of politicians, corporations, and lobbyists are hopelessly addicted to the status quo. Only a severe shock of some kind will get them to change.

All this **** is slowly gettin fixed at the state and local level. The new lending that is starting to come in is senior to pension and healthcare obligations (see Rhode Island) for state employees. Over 1M state and local jobs have been eliminated since 2007. Taxes are also being raised and future entitlements are being cut down.

"the market will take care of it", and it certainly is, The banks have had to cut rates and extend terms in order not to have the majority of loans completely defaulted on. So savers get nothing except hopefully their principal back. The circular problem is when those baby boomers have to sell stock to fund lets say their retirement, savers won't have the money saved to buy therefore the price will go down. Being a bond vigilante is like putting a gun to your head and pulling the trigger, thats why Japan is still zerobound.

The magnitude of this problem in major economies is huge coupled compared with countries like Greece.

The deluded supporters of the FSA are easily manipulated. I'll be interested to see what kind of lies are fed to them about the origin of the impending global recession. When the profligacy of the status quo is revealed, there will have to be scapegoats. The deluded millions will be searching for an answer that fits the narrative they've been trained to believe, or at least one that segues into a new paradigm. People who have already proven easy to brainwash will no doubt be a prime target for whatever totalitarian propagandist may come along.

For those who have proven more difficult to control-- I see long, sheet metal barracks surrounded by tall, tall fences.

Remember that. When this melts down-- the above is our likely outcome. Assuming there are still men evil and powerful enough to control other men, this will be the outcome. Who knows what kinds of facilities, weapons, armies, and the like have been built by those in control, hedging against just this kind of collapse? Such evil men have been skimming billions-- trillions of dollars off of the entire world for generations. I ask, to what end? What have they been doing with that money? Nothing good, I'm sure.

Some politicians are accelerating -

President Obama: "If You've Got A Business - You Didn't Build That. Somebody Else Made That Happen"

Presented with commentary (highlights ours)

There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t -- look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together. That’s how we funded the GI Bill. That’s how we created the middle class. That’s how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover Dam. That’s how we invented the Internet. That’s how we sent a man to the moon. We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and that’s the reason I’m running for President -- because I still believe in that idea. You’re not on your own, we’re in this together. (Applause.)

ARPANET was NOT created "...so that all the companies could make money..."! In fact, they wanted NO commercial use for the new network.

Wiki wrote..

The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) was the world's first operational packet switching network and the core network of a set that came to compose the global Internet. The network was funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) of the United States Department of Defense for use by its projects at universities and research laboratories in the US.
