Pilgrims Responsible For Violence? Really?

Just when you think that things can't get more stupid in my old town of Chitcago, the political folks open their mouths and remove all doubt.

When asked about the “gap” between law enforcement and the black community, McCarthy reached back 400 years for an answer.

“It’s a big issue. It’s a long time coming. We’ve done a lot of things wrong in policing in this country. I’m willing to admit that,” said McCarthy. “But this goes back 200-300 years to the time when Pilgrims came here and things developed from that, the African American experience in this country.”

But the Pilgrims weren’t the only people being blamed for the violence. The superintendent also laid blame at the feet of America’s finest and inferred – without actually stating it - that white police officers are the problem.

America's "finest"?

Oh please.

But playing the race card is equally stupid.

But for decades, vast sums of money have been poured into poor communities onChicago’s South and West sides.

Where has the money gone?

It's been stolen.  See, economic empowerment, starting with the removal of incentives to be a thug (and yes, getting rid of the drug war would be a big help) isn't really on any of these people's agenda.  It's far more profitable to blame "whitey" and repress the people, then claim that you can "fix it" if just a bit more freedom (and a lot more money!) is sacrificed on your unholy altar.

Instead, how about this idea: The City of Chicago recognizes the 2nd Amendment.  In full.  Be a thug, you might get shot.  By a law-abiding citizen who answers your thuggery with a couple of 1,000 fps hunks of lead hurled at your center-of-mass.

Senseless violence?  Oh there's plenty of that.  And plenty of stupid too.  Like Heaven Sutton.  Where do I start with that?  A kid selling "candy" at 11:00 PM in the middle of an area known for gang activity?  Really, candy?  What sort of candy was she selling, may I ask, and to whom?

Who knows if the alleged gang-banger is really the person who shot the kid; it appears from what I can determine that this was a "two gangs in one place, someone starts blasting" incident.  Am I surprised?  Oh hell no, not when only criminals have guns -- everyone else who is law-abiding has been disarmed by Constitution-ignoring -- that is, a lawless -- government!

Of course the gang-bangers don't care if it's "illegal" to carry (and use!) a gun -- that's why we call them criminals.  The first rule of being a criminal is that you don't give a damn about the law.  The second one appears to be that you pick up a "hot" pistol and that you're prepared to use it.

When you really need someone to put a stop to the ******* waving a pistol around and shooting people with it right damn now the police will be there in 5 minutes -- or 10, or 20.  Just dial 911 and the hearses will be be right over to carry off the dead.

Yeah.

It wouldn't take very long for this crap to stop were Chitcago to stop being stupid and make legal Constitutional Carry.  See, gang-bangers may be many things, but none of them are really all that interested in being DRT (Dead Right THERE), which is exactly what they would be were that change to be implemented.

The fact is that the law-abiding citizens radically outnumber the gang-bangers and while more dead bodies is not a good answer to any particular problem if there are going to be dead bodies due to the acts and decisions taken by gang-bangers I prefer ex-gang-bangers instead of ex-7 year old girls.

In the meantime, until and unless Rahm pulls his head out of his ass (which, incidentally, is unlikely to happen -- ever) nor is it likely that the residents of Chitcago will demand that the Jackass-in-Chief abdicate and be replaced by someone who actually read the Bill of Rights my recommendation is that everyone avoid Chitcago.  Don't do business there and definitely don't visit and spend money.

You're an unarmed target and that's exactly how the thugs -- and City Government -- like it.

I have friends and family there and all they talk about is the shootings and violence. Chicago is one of those cities where we can't even ship pepper spray. Defending yourself isn't an option when da union police is in charge......

The only thing that helped keep the looters and torchers at bay during the '92 South Central LA riots was the Korean store owners arming themselves and standing guard on top of their businesses. Shortly after the riots started the cops retreated because it was too dangerous :^) 911 would get you a busy signal. All unarmed passerbys were subject to a beating with no assistance from the cops. Ask Reginald Denny. The only thing that stopped the riots was the inability of the post office to deliver the welfare checks at the start of the month.

I believe he's dead serious. He probably can't ship pepper spray to the entire state of Massachusetts, since you need an FID card to possess it here.

Many will continue to pander to those who don't want the truth. The rest of the country simply doesn't fall for it; white-flight sends those with the means away from minority-heavy areas that are generally high in crime and in which a white is many times more likely to be attacked by a black than the other way around. Nobody expects this to change quickly, and as long as the race card is constantly pulled to explain away why most black males have no father around and are behind in every single major area (education, crime, etc.), those with the means will just shrug their shoulders and get out of the area entirely.

No, no, no. You are talking solutions when the local-yokel politicos there WANT TO rule over a third-world ****hole that is populated by clueless marks who can be depended upon to fall for their shellgames, ponzis and scams.

Sort of like... Uh... All of America!... smiley

I mean, just look up what it pays to rule over a third-world ****hole to see why. It pays big time. Of course, the various members of America's TPTB who are presently on that particular career path may be overlooking, a wee bit, how often it ends in premature and violent death... smiley

Karl, I agree with you on the 2nd Amendment issue and certainly more guns in the hands of decent law-abiding Chicagoans would be a plus, but the truth is that it will do nothing to stop the violence in these communities.

The problem with this dead 7 yr old is not that she didn't have a gun, the problem (as you noted) is WHAT THE HECK IS A 7 YR OLD DOING OUT AT 11 PM?!?!!?)

You and I instinctively know better parenting; we live in places where our neighbors have better parenting skills. BUT, you go to the high crime areas of any city and you see many children who are the product of little or no parenting.

And that leads to the gang problem. All the legal and 'good' gun ownership in the world will not stop these lightly parented kids from joining gangs. Are you or I and anyone here gonna strap a sidearm to their hip and go on "anti-gang" crusades in these high crime areas? And what exactly would we do? Point to our guns and say "Don't you join a gang!!!!" These criminals live there, they outnumber us on there streets and unless we're gonna form up as some kind of militia and ride into these craphole nabes as an organized and armed force AND stay there, then WTF are we gonna accomplish?

If caught between two gangs shooting at each other, what will you do? Pick a side or shoot at both equally? The smart thing to do is 1) avoid those areas where this crap happens ESPECIALLY at night; 2) if you observe two gangs shooting at each other GET THE **** OUTTA THERE!!! If they want to kill each other, let them. If YOU jump in then they'll be shooting at you.

The problem goes beyond gun ownership. We have subsidized social dysfunction for 40 + yrs with the Great Society BS and now we have whole populations of people who have no need or ability to provide for themselves, who get rewarded with free money and housing if they have kids, and who have plenty of time on their hands to sleep all day and get into trouble at night. Avoid these areas at any and all costs and by all means arm yourself so you can protect your family and home if and when they try to bring their violent ways to your house at 2 am.

Notice what the judge said. " You and EVERY individual that carries a weapon on the streets of Chicago are dangerous individuals." The judge's actions do not appear to be promoted by Justice - but by a continued war on the second amendment.

This disarmament isn't due to stupidity - it is being done by evil design.

The 2ed would be the answer if you could shoot thugs with impunity. But as the Zimmerman case demonstrates you can't. Better solution: Exile violent criminals. First real violent crime and we ship you Liberia for life. We'll give each criminal 40 acres, a mule, and an ak47.

It will take a generation to remove the naturally violent people and their spawn from our cities but once they're gone we'll have peace again. We won't need the suburbs and public transportation will be safe and useful.

It won't work because people aren't born naturally violent - they get it from their early environments.

What is a 7 year old doing out at 11PM? Dealing drugs is what. They might not even know that is what they are doing, but they make the delivery. They get busted, they don't get charged.

Read some of the stuff on Detroit. It was colonized by the Federal funds pimps. What the funds were meant to fix was destroyed. Chicago has hocked the money making assets of the city, to get more money to flush down the toilet

Note our President came out of this crime syndicate region. No wonder we see mafia type action out of the administration.

Abn0rmal,
They've done the studies on genetics with twins and sliver foxes. Violent behavior is around 80% genetic. You can make some violent creatures less violent but it takes something akin to a animal trainer to do it. I'd rather just get the criminal DNA out of the population they prey on.

I did a brief stint as a volunteer mentor in an inner city Long Beach, CA high school, and noticed a really insidious dynamic going on in inner cities.

As a contrast, first, I drew upon my own childhood experiences. I grew up in a nice suburban area outside of Los Angeles. Most all of the adults I knew had finished high school and most of them went to college. Going to college was just a given for me, it was as if it was a continuation of high school, and was not negotiable. Even at my high school, the curriculum and the attitudes of the teachers and staff were geared to getting us into college. As our graduating class as seniors were accepted to various colleges, this was celebrated on campus on a "college bound" bulletin board.

Contrast this with the inner city high school. These kids practically know NO adults around them who have gone to college, and a significant percentage of them didn't even finish high school. The high school curriculum was geared towards graduating high school, and survival. These kids didn't have that same sense of college being an "inevitability" that I did. There are some very bright kids in inner cities, but they will never go anywhere because, in their minds, college is just a completely foreign concept to them.

Those inner city kids who actually DO graduate, and DO buck the trend and get into college inevitably get good jobs, and then LEAVE the inner city. Now, here's the insidious part... the people who remain in the inner city don't celebrate the success of their counterparts who have gone to college and made it in life. To the contrary, they are looked down on as being sellouts who "think they are better than us".

These kids didn't grow up with role models who showed a path to "success" being graduating high school, and going to college. Which begs the question... what kind of role models DID they have? Unfortunately, for a lot of these kids, their "role models", by default, were of the WRONG kind.

Can't find the article now, but I read an article (maybe a blog post) online a couple of months ago about how the Pilgrims get a bad rap. Pilgrims were opposed to slavery. They also advanced women's rights and religious freedom in their time. Of course, that's why they came over: they wanted religious rights and didn't want to be forced to worship in a state church. They also started very participatory democratic communities with town councils.
