Trying to get my wife, if she won't invest in gold and silver, to at least put her savings in Treasuries in case her bank goes under with no FDIC rescue.

Is Treasury Direct the best place to do this? http://www.treasurydirect.gov/

Meanwhile the FRB reports the recession has crushed the US "middle" class.
Asset values down 40 per cent.

We're still not facing the truth here -- those who lent money with no reasonable capacity for the debtor to pay must take their loss. Those who borrowed and can't pay must go bankrupt. And governments must stop spending more than they tax.

I continue to be amazed by how easily the central banks can keep printing money. If a Spanish bank or banks need money, they got it. If an Italian bank or banks need money, they got it. It doesn't matter the quantity either. A billion, trillion or several billion or trillion and they got it. No hyper-inflation, no deflation nada. The system needs money and they just print it up or whatever and there is no side effect to the printed money. Neither is a side effect to the amounts. You'd think the more they print the getter the effect. It's as if they can print near unlimited amounts and the effects would be muted at best. They have truly perfected the game of money printing.

Plenty of side effect. Spanish bonds didn't get trashed today for no reason.

ECB doesn't actually print, they just subordinate. They simply cut in line for picking at the scraps of these countries when they blow.

Sounds like a bailout, but it's actually nothing, just changing who gets the leftovers from these bankrupt countries.

Watching the keiser report last nite he had on a gentleman from France that stated the Spaniards were coming across into France making a run on their ATMs because of limits on withdrawals in Spain.

Jose the inflation already happened. The private banks created last time, and now the central banks are trying to cover up the deflation with their inflation. Net net it is zero, but the problem is the distribution this time.
