All of them. Already have Karl. Have not watched any (picture me with my hand on the bible in front of a judge when I say ANY!) tv since March of 2010. Hulu now and again but that is it. As for getting my news. I prefer the truth the altenative media on the internet dish out excluding Alex Jones and the like except after own research/verification. Karl really is John Galt. PS. I have boycotted as much as I can. - I drive a POS (looking) accord with broken A/C (I live in Phoenix). 247k miles and it just keeps going. - I bought a condo for cash and have $720/yr prop tax. Trying to starve the FIRE economy. - I buy most of my food from a local (true) farmers market. - My health club is a yoga/pilates studio owned and operated my a couple who live less than a mile away from it - gotta love yoga butt! In other words I spend most of my $ in local people. But I do support wal mart - They have the cheapest ammo! And I make $64k/yr with another ~ $30k in benes. So I could easily spend lots more money on the advertisers that the MSM spouts.

I am not sure if this gang sign thing is plain laziness/incompetence of media or a deliberate scam. Zimmerman case is probably different and shows how politically dependent media has become. In any case, whether it is incompetence or bias, whatever they say should be either not listened to or critically analyzed. And whether this is Fox or MSNBC makes no difference.
Having lived in USSR, I can say that the media situation here reminds me of media situation there in Comrade Brezhnev's time, with the difference that HERE most people believe what the Zombifying Box (TV) tells them. In USSR they KNEW that media and government is lying to them.

"Turn the mainstream media off"
Already did, a couple decades ago.
"and boycott their advertisers"
That will be rather difficult as there are a lot of them.
I received a post card recently that I'd been selected to be part of the Nielson media survey effort and would receive a call. Did some on-line research to see if this for-profit effort actually paid anything for a person's logging of a week's worth of TV viewing and found a reference to the amount: $5. Ha!!! So, when they called and I heard a guy with a _very_ heavy (nearly couldn't understand him) Hispanic accent (gotta' off-shore all jobs, ya' know!) announce he was calling for Nielson, I immediately said, "not interested." He then said, "But this is the company that collects data on the TV programs that you watch!" like I'm supposed to fawn over the "privilege," to which I replied, "Yeah, I know, not interested, bye!", click.
My total effect on the garbage on TeeVee is going to be same as my total effect on the garbage in government and it's associated agencies - nil. So, if they want me to lift a pen to help with something they SELL, it's going to cost them a lot more than $5.

Why would Nielson pay a thin dime for you to log anything? If you have cable there is full documentation of what you watch and when you watch it.

Quote:The corporations are so big nowadays, what is left to buy that already isn't controlled by these huge conglomerates? Do what your ancestors did - make it, or do without. Grow your own food, or buy from your local farmer. Join a CSA(community supported agriculture). Put up/store your food. Make your own cleaners - there are tons of books and websites out there that will show you how to make your own, at much lower cost and only a few things from the hardware store. Use a clothesline when your dryer burns out. Ditch the dishwasher, wash by hand, and use the greywater in the garden. Move closer to work, or get a local job, and ride a bike or a scooter. Sell your car and either rent one when necessary or buy a reliable beater. Make and use rain barrels for all your outside water needs; cut way down on your inside water usage. Invest in solar hot water and reduce your dependence on the grid. Do you really need that 18/25 cu ft refrigerator ? Get a 5-7cu ft refrigerator, use a chest freezer, and don't use ice unless it's really hot outside. Use evaporation for a cool drink in the summer. Get a woodstove or fireplace insert to heat most of your house in the winter. Get shades, plant trees, to cut out the need for a/c. Insulate the bejeesus out of your house and reduce the need for heat and a/c altogether. Sell your mcmansion and buy a nice piece of land and build an eco and budget friendly house with no debt. It's really not that difficult to reduce the need for corporations in your life. You just have to make the commitment and do it.

As I've said before, the difference between Soviet media and American media is this: In the USSR the media told lies and spread propaganda because they were afraid of being sent to the gulag. The American media does it willingly.

American socialism has lasted longer than Soviet socialism because people respond better to being told they are free than they respond to being explicitly told they belong to the State.
The superficial differences between the two systems represent more efficient livestock management techniques on the part of the US system.

I don't have Geico Insurance. That outfit is not only run by Buffet, but advertises on every program, news or otherwise.
As far as the news goes? How many wars have we been in over the years over news nonsense? The John Birch Society was started over the fact our government constantly backed the wrong side. I am sure the backing was arranged in the news. Do those that get attacked by SWAT teams in the US gain much sympathy? Bay of Pigs, Gulf of Tonkin, Remember the Maine, and whatever nonsense was used to get involved in the Great War and FDR putting a target on Honolulu and Pearl Harbor (basically made it non-defensible, had broken the code and failed to inform, while forcing the Japanese into action).
When watching the news, listen for the lies and deception. Remember, it is only another version of CNBS.

I never watch news or specials on MSM, haven't for years. They treat the public as a bunch of idiots, and they are the only enlightened ones. HOWEVER, all of a sudden the conservative blogs are all running ads of Moochella touting her husband. It is the first ad that comes up. I guess money will buy anything or anybody.

...and thats why I do not own a TV for going on 8 years now. That's why I never listen to the Radio. I just see those two forms of media as pollution.
At least on the internet I can control what gets piped in.

I quit subscription tv several years ago and seek the truth on the web. It is delightful that the truth is out there but at the same time it is very disturbing and shameful that MSM peddles propaganda to the sheeple as news and truth.
I do watch network broadcast news most nights for the schadenfreude of knowing that the sheeple are being info-tained with news of hopium and status quo from the MSM and that they accept every story as gospel truth.
My generation was taught to never believe anything you read and only half of what you see. My parents and my grandparents preached that to me when I was young. Their answers to my "why?" questions ran the gamut from individuals, groups and governments either lie, hide, cover up, fabricate, etc. in order to push an agenda, aggrandize, indoctrinate, accredit, discredit, promote, dishonor, etc. people, events, countries, governments, etc.. That teaching was hard for me to accept before I learned critical thinking skills and discernment.
Even though I practiced independent verification of "news" there was a time that I accepted photographs as being truthful, then I found out about how pictures could be manipulated with PhotoShop and my perspective became even more jaded.
What the hell happened to people questioning authority, holding the .gov and media to high standards of integrity and truth and such? Has the world gone stupid??
I believe I have just had the epiphany that throughout the existence of man (at least since recorded history back to Ptolemy) that once societies reach the top level of Maslow's hierarchy of needs, people get complacent and no longer care about the true state of the world because they are fat, happy and have easy access to what ever they desire. However once the majority reaches complacency the ruling elite are enabled to step in and recover (reclaim with the sword or outright steal) all the wealth and render the people back into serfdom, ignorant, uneducated, hungry and subservient for decades or centuries until they make their way back up Maslow's hierarchy and then the cycle repeats.
It is pretty obvious to me now that we are on the verge of serfdom yet again.

Stanislaw Lem's society of the "futurological congress" draws near. Heard someone was making a movie hope they don't **** it up. http://transparencynow.com/introlem2.htmnothing in this society is what it appears to be. It turns out that a pharmacological dictatorship has been secretly subjecting the population to another set of psycho-chemical drugs to induce a collective hallucination. As a result, everyone sees a utopia of luxury, well-tended nature and advanced technology when the economy, the environment and the physical integrity of the people themselves are actually in a state of collapsePass the alprazolam/soma and gimme some more i-gadgets and DWTS 24/7. USALAND I am coming to despise you.

All I have right now is my phone, so can-t watch the video. But...
This seems on the face of it just a bit wierd:
A gang member with an actual skill (ability to draw or use photoshop/gimp etc. well enough to contend well in city logo design contests)?
Who uses said skill to promote his gang by trying to slip the gang's flag/coat of arms onto a Chicago license plate sticker?
And the city notices and disqualifies the entry for that reason?
And it's somehow important enough to the kid and|or the gang to involve the NEWS MEDIA to try to get the disqualification reversed???
Why???

I posted this link also on the Trayvon ticker. This link is exactly about this subject. http://theconservativetreehouse.com/2012....Of course the media needs those needing their services also. Its a must read in my opinion. If what he has pans out and it probably will, The Mysterious DeeDee girlfriend has been found online even though hers and Trayvons accounts etc. have apparently been 'scrubbed". Seems some "archive" sites have not been.
