Gee, what happened to common sense (say much less the truth)?

Oh I know, Monsanto, the rest of Agribusiness and big Pharma killed it so we could all buy things laced with High Fructose Corn Syrup and sugar, then buy lots and lots of drugs so the pharma industry could hook us and "treat" us for life!

Hmmmm....

Had the same thought, but about the RUSH video earlier today.

As people age, they put on weight in part because they are less active, and lose lean body mass over time (lean body mass is the prime utilizer of glucose).

Body fat increases... in part because we have habits that say just "how much" we should eat whether or not the carbs are really needed.

The really big question I have is: what part of the obesity epidemic is due to the baby boomers aging and naturally putting on weight, and how much is due to dietary/exercise factors?

A great deal I would say. I'm 54, 6'2", 210lbs and solid. I dance socially and competitively. Three days a week I'll teach two lessons in the afternoon, have a lite dinner, and then dance socially for 3 hours non stop and I do mean non stop. I don't sit out a dance. On the weekends I rehearse 3 to 6 hours for competition.

I'd have to say that most of the crowd I tend to dance with are not obese by any definition and many of them are in their 70's & 80's and we have two male dancers in their 90's. I hope I'm still dancing when I'm 90 years old.

Shrek, I looked up "Wheat Belly" at my library. They have 7 copies, all are checked out, and at least three are on the hold list. My BMI is 22.3 but I am aiming for 20. Is it the bread that gives guys the rounded pregnant look?

My doctor has said the only way to accurately measure my BMI is to do the water displacement method. The charts wouldn't be accurate.

I lost four pounds since January by reducing bread intake, and overall portion size while eating the same things (read meat, fat, fruits, more read meat, chicken, cheese, milk, eggs, salami, bacon, lard, butter, olive oil, did I mention read meat and butter? I haven't even exercised much.

BMI at 23.5 and falling.

The obesity epidemic is not just boomers. Have you looked at school kids nowadays? Fatties are everywhere.

Wheat Belly is good. Gary Taubes also writes about the history of recommended nutrition and how it used to be drastically different pre-1960s. Right around the time this video came from. Surprise, surprise, the culprits behind the change in philosophy were our government agencies, ie. Big Ag.

Read: Why We Get Fat, by Gary Taubes

Hint: It is not from fat in our diet. Or necessarily lack of exercise or excess calories. Biggest factors are added sugars, simple carbs and the insulin reactions they create.

From my school years (1965-1977) I can only remember 2 or 3 kids who were really fat. Everyone else was very normal.

I'm overweight but not disgustingly so. An honest friend said: "[You're] not fat but you're out of shape." Two months ago I decided to cut out bread, cereal, etc. along with fruit juice, desserts, and anything else w/too much sugar. I also limited myself to one plate/meal. I've been losing about 5 lbs/month.

My nephew is in late elementary school and he's so fat the other kids teased him about it until he developed psychological problems. My brother's brilliant solution: move him to another school. He's fat, too, so he probably didn't want to put his kid on a diet he'd have to eat himself. If my nephew develops diabetes I'm telling you I'm going to drive the 8 hours down to my brother's house and chew him out until he cries like a little girl and enrolls his fat ass in CrossFit and changes his and his son's diets and lifestyle.
