NBC Is The Skittle Network

Are you*****ed off yet?  You will be.

NBC News is being excoriated in some circles – with competitor Fox News Channel leading the charge – for selectively editing audio of the 911 call placed by George Zimmerman just before he killed Trayvon Martin.

Yep.   They got caught too.

In the NBC segment, Zimmerman says: “This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.”

So Zimmerman is a racist, right?  Uh, not quite.

The full version, though, unfolds like this:

Zimmerman: “This guy looks like he’s up to no good, or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.”

911 operator: “Okay. And this guy, is he white black or Hispanic?”

Zimmerman: “He looks black.”

What do you call it when the media invents things?  That's not reporting folks.

Maybe NBC is trying to incite a race riot.  Or maybe it's just pure slander.  Incidentally there's no defense available to a news organization (or any journalist) when they intentionally do something like this.  Zimmerman ought to consider suing their ass to somewhere beyond the orbit of Mars.

More to the point, however, this sort of invention of a conversation that never happened by splicing together two pieces of tape means that nothing the media is telling you can be accepted as true without independent proof irrespective of which side of the debate the alleged "report" is on.

While we're at it I have some more questions, but I'll keep it to just two for right now.  Both would help understand what actually happened that night, and neither, to my knowledge, has been investigated and reported upon.

Let's ask "why not?"

First, ABC reported that Trayvon's body was kept in the morgue as a "John Doe" for three days.  However, Martin's father called the Sanford police department the morning after the shooting when he noted his son was not home, and they came out and made the identification.  Where did that discrepancy come from and was ABC trying to intentionally smear the Sanford police department?  There is an adjunct question to this -- we know Trayvon had a cellphone with him because he was allegedly talking with his girlfriend.  Were there numbers with the tags "Mom" and "Dad" in it?  Wouldn't you have expected the police to look over what was inventoried, assuming that Trayvon wasn't carrying ID and call any obvious contact number such as one tagged "Mom" or "Dad"?  Now maybe the cellphone had a passcode on it or something similar, but there's an obvious open question on the delay in identification and contact with the parents, and it deserves an answer.

Second, Trayvon Martin was allegedly out at night, on foot and in a rainstorm getting iced tea and skittles. Ok, here's the address where the altercation took place from the police report:

2381 Retreat View Cir
Sanford, FL 32771

Now go to Google Maps and type in that address.

Next, find me a convenience store -- you know, a place to buy skittles and an iced tea. Just type in "convenience store" in the "Search Nearby" box.

Where's the closest one and how far is it on foot?

In a rainstorm, for a bag of skittles and can of iced tea, both ways?  Possible?  Sure.  Plausible?  That story ought to be able to be checked, and rather easily -- all convenience stores these days have video recorders.

So has anyone checked to see if indeed the deceased hiked the anywhere from 2-4 miles to and from one of the half-dozen convenience stores in the general area (none closer than about a mile on foot, incidentally, and all somewhat of a pain in the ass to get to due to what appears to be a limited access highway -- 417 -- between the location and the stores which would force you to walk quite a bit further than you could go "as the crow flies".)

These are pretty basic questions.  In fact the closest convenience store is a Murphy USA; to reach the others north of the location (the ones south are a LOT further) you'd have to walk past it, so it's highly likely that's the store -- if the story of going out for skittles and iced tea holds up.

Does it?  Has anyone checked?

We'll start there; I've got more queued up.

From my perspective when I saw what NBC was putting out, My first thought was if anybody tried running that obvious nonsense on TF they would instantly get the ban hammer. It is disgusting that the MSM is lacking basic ethics.
My second thought was, what if the pressure was greater than the fear of them getting caught? The editors at NBC aren’t stupid. My tinny side thinks that there is a driving force bent on starting a race war.

The ability of a stranger finding "Mom" or "Dad" in his phone directory is a bit sketchy....those people might have been listed by their first names or "non-Mom" and "non-Dad" names.

But I am right there with you as far as the nexus between "gated community" and "convenience store".

Where I live, in CA, one is very, very rarely found near the other. By definition. But not 100% non-existent. I have seen gated communs kind of plopped into the middle of other stuff, in the manner of "pocket" development, and a lot of that type of thing went on in FL during the frenzy era. A gated commun in a RE frenzy is potentially worth substantially more money than a house plopped into the middle of a block.

I'm sick of hearing about this stupid thing, I don't mind telling you. I don't pretend it's over.

I was in a restaurant having dinner and watching TV without sound. They were showing over and over the police surveillance tape when Zimmerman was at the station. They kept zeroing in on Zimmerman's head, I suppose to show he had no injuries. Yet they omit the part in the surveillance tape where the officer is clearly inspecting the back of Zimmerman head. So if you are paying attention to the officer, it is clear that something is going on with the back of Zimmerman's head. The media is going to milk this for all it is worth. Again, selective evidence.

In the USSR, the reporters at Pravda told lies and spread propaganda for fear of being sent to the gulag.

The American media does it willingly.

That is chilling.

How about tracing his cell GPS? Who had he been talking to other than his girlfriend that night?

since there's no sound on the tape, it could just be that the officer inspected the back of Zimmerman's head because Zimmerman told him he had an injury there. for the brief unobstructed portions of the tape (jeezus, ABC, really?!), i didn't see any signs of injury. i tried gauging from the officer's reaction, but he didn't really have one. he didn't nod or cringe on the one hand, nor shake his head or shrug his shoulders on the other.

It may be that simple. The news people, raised in peaceful middle-class comfort, enjoying wealth and privilege in what has been up till now the freest society in human history--and being utterly ignorant of history--simply cannot comprehend the depths of violence and depravity to which societies can sink. They don't understand that their own actions are likely to result in that fate being visited upon our society.

That's the charitable view, anyway. The alternative is darker and more conspiratorial.

OK, to play along with Karl on the snooping game... where does Trevon's Dad live? I haven't seen that piece of info yet, could tell us a lot about why T Martin was where he was...

BTW, at 17, I often would walk a mile or more (sometimes in the rain) to go to a convenience store, I didn't think it was that big a deal...

Also, almost due east, is a 7-Eleven about a mile from the crime scene. Depending on the location he was headed for, that might also have been the place he went for Skittles and iced tea... possibly even moreso, because Murphy USA is a Wal-Mart gas station... of course, maybe Martin went into Wally World for his skittle fix...

The time of the shooting also wouldn't totally rule out the Publix to the west of the crime scene either, it would be open at 7 pm...

Just one more piece of the puzzle here...

Assassin,

"it could just be that the officer inspected the back of Zimmerman's head because Zimmerman told him he had an injury there."

Assuming that Zimmerman asked the officer to look at the back of the head, I would expect to see some kind of communication back to Zimmerman. It looked more to me that he looked out of his own curiosity.

The plethora of information that has been presented over the last few days has done nothing but distract people from the simple truth.

1. Mr. Zimmerman was stalking the victim
2. The victim was doing nothing illegal (what store did he go to, did his dad live there etc., who cares! He was walking, which is legal here in the U.S.
3. The police dispatcher told him not to follow the victim, but Mr. Zimmerman continued any way.
4. At some point the victim chose a path that did not allow Mr. Zimmerman follow in his truck, at which time Mr. Zimmerman exited his vehicle to continue following.
5. Since Mr. Zimmerman stalked the victim by vehicle and on foot this made him the aggressor from the beginning.
6. The victim had every right to believe his life was in danger after seeing someone follow him in a vehicle and then watch as the the person exited said vehicle and continue after him. (lets remember it was dark and raining).
7. Since Mr. Zimmerman was clearly the aggressor and the victim feared for his safety, trevon had every right to confront him.
8. Any normal human being would have been frightened by someone following them in a vehicle and then again on foot.
9. And lastly, I need to reemphasize the point; TREVON DID NOTHING ILLEGAL!

All the rest that has been written here has nothing to do with these simple facts, its just senseless pablum.

Uhh, this has stopped about being about the facts in this case. The national media is portraying it as an act of cold blooded murder.

The national media is undertaking an incitement to race riots.

Von, your comment is quite off topic.

Vonkasebolt,

1. Zimmerman saw Trayvon casing houses to hit while he was suspended from school. We know that Trayvon had previously been caught with women's jewelry and a burglary tool.

2. As a good neighborhood watch captain would, he called 911 and reported a hoodie in the hood.

3. 911 operator asks Zimmerman if he was following him and he said yes. 911 says "you don't have to do that". Zimmerman agrees to meet with the cops but his only value to the cops when they arrive is if he can tell the cops where the hoodie is.

4. Having lost sight of the hoodie, Zimmerman goes above the call of duty and seeks to find Travon's location so he can report to the cops when they arrive.

5. Trayvon is angered at Zimmerman because Zimmerman is getting in the way of his program of burglarizing all the houses in the neighborhood. He sizes up Zimmerman, sees that he has a 10" height advantage and ascertains that Zimmerman will be an easy victim.

6. Trayvon assaults Zimmerman and is kicking his ass on the ground and continues to beat him while he is screaming for help. Having no further means of defense at that point, Zimmerman shoots Trayvon in a legit kill.

7. Nothing to see here.

This entire episode is disgusting.

that "burglary tool" is also known as a "screwdriver". surely, there are no legitimate uses for such an implement, which is why it's safe to assume that Trayvon was a prolific criminal.

you seem fond of referring to him as a "hoodie" over and over. does not acknowledging him as a human being make it easier for you to gloss over the killing of an unarmed kid like it's nothing to be bothered by?

6" height advantage. but exaggerating that fits in with the rest of your tall tale. :/ did Trayvon breathe fire from his deadly gold grill, too?
