Bacon is on "sale" three weeks out of the month. Beef is up substantially coast to coast for sure. And most of the processed food is up too. Cereal is noticeably down from it's high. Fruits and vegetables are off theie highs. Food prices are up for the people who never adjust what they buy. The ones who shop by pictures and displays.
I just can't stand people exaggerating or talking without knowing. That's all.

P.S. I can buy bacon here outside Detroit for $3 a lb. easily.

Beef is going up MUCH more folks. You should see the data coming out of the live cattle auctions! ($2+/lb LIVE, on the hoof!)

Granted, a BIG part of this is the Texas weather condition problem (drought)

Steak prices are through the roof. We found some on sale the other day but it'll be the first steak we've eaten in at LEAST a month. We used to eat it once or twice a week.

I buy my beef from a local farmer who raises grass fed beef.

I will be interested what next years price will be when his cost of production has gone up only slightly.

Smart buy.

Never fails to amaze me that people will spend money on all kinds of crap and then look for the cheapest most processed poison food and think they are saving money on that trade.

Amazing.

Here is bacon prices on netgrocer

http://shop.netgrocer.com/shop.aspx?....

I'm like Karl I can find it cheaper on sale and will buy whatever brand that happens to be. When it gets over 6 I won't buy it.

I was at target the other day and the non- target milk was 4.25. That has to be hurting people, reminds me of the days when I was a kid that we to had occasionally drink powered milk.

what Wis said. I paid $2.57/lb last June. Since grass wasn't any more expensive this year than last, it might not change much smiley

Scrood-

Agree 100%. I can't *believe* the prices burger joints and sandwich shops are charging. Its insane. For me, even when I'm in a hurry, it just doesn't make sense. I'll wait an hour or two and have a home cooked meal that is much healthier for less.

I called Uncle Leonard the other day to get my half a calf and he said that he had to cull his herd last year due to the drought. It may take 6 months before I get my beef from him.

Most Asian groceries will have pork bellies. What kind of a slicer do you have? I've tried cutting them with a knife and got thick, irregular slices.

Good time to get into small farm aquaculture, raising small birds (chickens, guineas, quails, etc.), and rabbits. Will eat much much better, compared to the commercial agriculture operations. Producing ones own food, leads to economic freedom.

Hstella: Just bought this one: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-....

It serves the purpose, but If I'd felt like spending the time saving money for it, I think I would have waited and get an old hobart even though they're ridiculously expensive.

You can get thin slices off the one I got, and while I'm happy in general, I really want something SOLID, something that you can slice 1/64" pieces without any hassle at all.

1/16" or a bit thinner is about as good as I can get with this one.

Bacon here (northern VT) is also $6/lb when not on sale. When on sale it sometimes goes 2 for 1 or 3.99/lb. When that happens I'll buy a bunch and freeze it.

I'm with JoeJohns.

Any bacon going in my body is at least $6/lb around here. Sure there's vacuum packed **** that's probably from china for $4. Preservatives and mostly lard.

I'd rather cut down slightly on how much I get and eat good bacon.

Anecdotal perhaps, but I walked out of the grocery store with one bag last week and had spent just short of $50.

My gasoline use is 1/3 of what it was a year ago (and I run my truck on french fry oil). My power bill was $27 last month.

And I'm going to turn my yard into a permaculture garden in about a week.

I am cooking the wife a nice Valentine’s dinner, so I needed chanterelles and bacon. The only place I know of which has chanterelle mushrooms this time of year is Whole Paycheck. I ended up buying 1/4 of a pound of pancetta (Italian bacon) for $4.00, that’s $16/pound. I won’t tell you what the chanterelles go for.
