Personally I didn't think much of the Gary Johnson 200K "campaign debt" as I'm assuming its his own money. Its a common practice of political candidates to loan their own campaigns money. So I started a posting on this thread of yours Karl on the importance of fact-checking and assuming that Gary's campaign debts were just his own personal loans to his campaigns. Then I realized that I don't know the source of Gary's campaign debts so I started googling. I read http://www.courthousenews.com/2012/02/13.... and see that Johnson has a big problem on his hands if both this story is true and he's thinking about continuing keeping his hat in the political arena. If I were running for office I'd know to first make sure that any potential personal blowup problem such as this was resolved or contained before moving forward. And there's no way IMO that Johnson couldn't have known about this problem brewing. I suppose he could blame it on trusted underlings and if that's the case then it should still blow up in his own face because he put together a shoddy team.

Actually, it's NOT, according to what the filing shows.

The debt appears to be wages and fees owed to people working for him. Look at the report more carefully -- the FEC requires it to be detailed. The FEC web site also forbids him (and me) from using the detail information on who donated and similar by name, but the summary information is entirely fair.

Candidate "Johnson". Did he just say that?! This tool is aptly named.

I would assume that among Johnson's donors are some large Wall Street firms and their employees. It is simply outrageous to assert that no crimes were committed. That's a DQ right there. Sorry I tossed his hat in the ring here at TF.

Gen, I still don't know the source of Gary's campaign debts as my initial googling on this uncovered this other problem. It's sort of like what happens when a cop goes searching a car for drugs and then finds somebody bleeding to death instead. The focus changed. As long as there is any perception that there could be any merit to this suit I think Johnson is a non-factor for me personally. Now if Johnson were to issue a strong statement saying that there is no lawsuit or at least produce some strong evidence that he's in the clear on all this or if his candidacy were to actually gain some real traction then I might reconsider my view. In the meantime I'll be paying more attention to the price of marsupial meat in Madagascar than I will to Johnson's candidacy.

Bydlak, which is linked to the lawsuit, has a ****load of line items for those debts.

Have a look-see for yourself.
