Sooooo.... How do we find out IF there's another MF? Barring a similar collapse, that is. Since we simply cannot trust the regulators to do their jobs, HOW can we find out? Is a MF-style implosion or a whistleblower our only options here?

The knowledge that regulators are not doing their jobs and LE is turning a blind eye to theft and fraud definitely adds a lot of uncertainty to the market and erodes what little faith might have been left in the market..

And that's as harmful as anything, long term.

Possible cause of the increased initial margin, the automatic net worth and on the books cash algorithm told them they needed to book more fake profits, therefore increasing their repo to maturity basis off balance sheet positions.
Another might be just the increase in margin requirement on newly rolled repos. The game on wall street is to force the other guy into a margin call situation where the predator gets to decide the liquidation price. JPM just delaying settlement has the same effect, quite the cash squeeze, on the books net worth squeeze. For each day JPM did not settle, they had to double the repo amounts that JPM would not settle the next day.

That sounds like the game Goldman played with AIG.

My bet is that the People on the ground at MF Global took away some pretty keen SWAG while the Crime Scene was being cleared.

3 days later, the trustee says there is 1.6 Billion missing from overseas commodities alone, with no mention of how much is missing from domestic markets although he has only paid out 70 percent of "cash" on those accounts.
