Raise shields indeed. Unfortunately, that Trible Bernanke is in the shields array, doing his best to expose Enterprise to the Greekons and the evil Euroradation.

"Raise Shields" that's the best investment advice I've heard in a couple of years.

Of course the way you "raise shields" is to get all of your money out of every account, don't play their game.

Raise shields! That might be necessary but not sufficient. I am beginning to think that investing in lead and brass may be necessary.

In the course of trying to understand how things got to this state, I have recently been reading a few books that I would recommend highly.

Griftopia: Bubble Machines, Vampire Squids, and the Long Con That Is Breaking America
by Matt Taibbi
ISBN: 978-0-835-52997-6

Taibbi provides insight into the fraud and corruption in the financial industry and the legislators who enabled it.

13 Bankers: The Wall Street Takeover and the Next Financial Meltdown
by Simon Johnson and James Kwak
ISBN-13: 978-0307476609

Johnson and Kwak put the situation into a global and historical context without (as far as I have read to date) getting into the fraudulent aspects. Particularly interesting is how deregulation evolved and its consequences.

The Crash Course: The Unsustainable Future Of Our Economy, Energy, And Environment
by Chris Martenson
ISBN-13: 978-0470927649

Our population, monetary system, and resources requirements all are described by exponential functions. As Karl has repeatedly pointed out, in the real world, exponential functions cannot grow without limit. Martenson predicts that the limits will be encountered in many areas over the next twenty years. This is required reading for everyone. If you read only one book this year, this should be the one!

Karl's book is next on the my list.
