I'm sure that "Delete" works the same way it does here.

Mark everything "deleted", but in point of fact actually delete nothing. The difference is that I disclose this before you sign up in the FAQ -- they don't.

Sorry folks, that's how it is. What's done on the Internet is never un-done, whether I keep it or someone else, it's there.

It will be an epic "FAIL" for him.

An unknown person (in Korea?) has set up an account in my friends name with pictures and details, with 'friends' actively posting for more than 2 years. Since we do nothave the password, we cannot de-activate this fictituous account pretending to be hers. Emails, letters and an attorney have been to no avail.. There has been NO response from facebook about the loss of privacy they have caused. We know several others working in the same politically and IP sensitive field who are similarly affected.

I certainly think you are correct.

On ad revenue, FB has horrible results compared to Google on ROI, it seem that people look at google as their "yellow pages" while FB is the back yard around the BBQ. It's OK when you expect the ads, FB is considered personal space...

Plus the timing is strange, just before timeline is a across the board change, i am already seeing people leave Facebook prior to the roll out and there seems to be honest resistance to this roll out. I feel that not only is growth slowing, there may be a flat year or slight loss as Timeline is gotten used to. Timeline seems to be central to FB's image of where they need to go, and they seem serious about their "mission"

I just recently set up a FB account because a bunch of friends and I were going to Mexico and it is how they all communicate. I don't get it, it's just like an old bulletin board application with pictures, and it makes no sense as to how it's going to make this unbelievable amount of money all of the talking heads are spouting on about.

Oh I know, I wouldn't trust them for a second to actually delete the info. I got on it to see some photos from a reunion, posted a few pics and very few comments (less than 5 over 2-3 years). When I say delete, I mean from having to look at it, or get notifications, or have stuff of mine tagged, etc. Even without an account, I'm sure me and my family show up all over FB at various friends/family accounts. So be it. It's a fad, but I do think it still has legs; enough to invest in the bubble?, no, but there are plenty of users that live for it.

If a company is generating such revenues and making such profits, why go public in the first place?

Section 12(g)(1) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. If a company has more than 500 share holders, it forces almost all the same disclosures as if the company were publicly traded. So once a company gets to that point, there's not much point in remaining private.

The usual pattern on IPOs is that "special friends" get the allocations.

The smart ones flip a hot one on the open. I used to do it during the internet bubble all the time, and it was very profitable.

A few went on to be 10 baggers if I had held them (instead of 2-3 baggers) but that's very dangerous, as you can easily wind up with a total turd that screws you hard -- and you never know when it's going to happen.

There's a lot of people who are going to want to own FB, so it'll be really easy to find people to sell to at a higher price when it first goes public.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see it double in a day or two and then fall apart.

The main reason why I am active on Facebook is to work with groups who are active in efforts to overhaul DHS/TSA and fight back against injustices.

I keep warning these groups to expect the plug to be pulled at some point in the future and that they had better have local community organization in place. At best FB isn't making money from us and at worst the Feds will issue an Internet crackdown.

Facebook = bubble.com 2.0

That's one reason I never got involved with it. I love Pinterest (thanks daughter!) but I rarely go there because it is a huge timesink as well & hubby still likes to have dinner in the evening. lol

I have to prioritize...and the Ticker wins!

I have to agree 100%:
1. I've NEVER bought anything from a Facebook ad
2. don't play the games so if they cost money, they've never made any off of me
3. the change to the new lay-out has hurt performance so badly that even I rarely bother with waiting
4. I've noticed a dramatic drop in activity.

That said, I LOVE Facebook as "home-base" for my genealogy sites and also as a "spy-base" as I have found lots of distant relatives this way. As someone mentioned info mining is a snap. I will miss it for that reaon - but, as Karl mentioned the next fad is on the way.

My kids, 18 & 22 rarely use Facebook anymore either - they both use Twitter - and the older one sometimes uses the new Google thing - but mostly Iface, I think. The kids hate it because we older folk are on it!

It is definitely on the way out...

I'm deleting items first before I delete my entire account. I figure they archive deleted accounts but if you keep your account and delete the content, it will overwrite any backups they have. After a year, delete the actual account.

Just my idea of how to REALLY delete something from a remote server drawing on my years of experience as a system admin.

"The said on the news this morning that there won't be a lot of shares available for the general public."

i interpret that to mean that GS will price it such that the insto's will be able to sell at massive profits to the general public, screwing both said public as well as Facebook.

I definitely expect it to shoot up on listing now, followed by a nice downward trend.

Does FB^H^H"Corporation X" really follow "The Hacker Way"? Master hacker Eric S. Raymond weighs in:

http://esr.ibiblio.org/?p=4118

Not having used the site himself, he can't comment directly, but the questions he raises offer important food for thought...and strongly suggest that Mr. Z's claims of a "hacker ethic" at CorpX are half hype and half horse manure.

Another variable to include in your Go-NoGo decisions on the IPO.
