I wish I shared Karl's optimism that there's a political solution to these problems. I suppose I've just lived too long in New England (12-years in CT, 11-years in MA) to keep that view as realistic.

I didn't say they were harmless. I held them accountable for their Tax cuts not paying back - at the start of the thread. and i said i quit the party in protest.

My point here is this: there is no upside VISIBLE to either party restraining spending if the other party is not held to the same rule.

my point was not ever close to saying the republicans are harmless.

I agree with you Gen, and I did not vote republican in the last election, nor twice in the 90s.

i did try bush once, and skipped 2004 election. that's when i quit the party.

i also encourage voting outside the big two parties.

My mantra since 1994 when I became eligible to vote:

Republican want to take my money and give it to big business.
Democrats want to take my money and give it to everyone else.

Vote Libertarian in 2012 - it's the only good future our country has.

with those incentives in mind, I have zero hope anything will get fixed through the house or senate. i don't see any elected representative forcing the economy to contract by adopting sound spending/taxing.

only a judge, being activist about constraining spending, or a president, vetoing and vetoing, is the only hope i see.

Incidentally, it's my generation by a few months or so. They really do need help and have almost NO ONE offering it. If older people--people who have the experience to lead the youngsters in a meaningful way--would bother to actually explain, "Hey, we sold ya down the river for our benefit, sorry about that... but we can fix this together," instead of instantly resorting to, "Stop whining, get off your ass, and get a job," maybe the Debt Generation wouldn't be yet another alienated generation of impossible retards who have no concept of personal responsibility or personal liberty.

Obviously, this doesn't apply to Mr. D. (who does enough...), but others, please examine your relations with these sorts of kids. Take responsibility for yourself or your peers and for the love of God make them defend their idiotic stances on social programs and solar power, or, for the few who think republitards are somehow an improvement, recent history.
