In regards to the LS press release, I've made a few responses to some of their points. ---------------------------------------------------------- Why did the government choose to ignore LightSquared's proposed power levels? Why did the government choose a power level 32 times greater than the level at which LightSquared will operate? The government chose the 1500W level which was the specified power level when LightSquared revised its network configuration after the June 2011 test results were released. All of these new power values were mentioned by LS only after the test parameters were set, or after the tests were complete. These new power levels were also only temporary and were specified to increase over time. Why did the test protocol select the 1dB degradation to noise as the interference standard, since it does not apply to general purpose GPS receivers and GPS units are typically designed with an 8dB level of tolerance? Who determined what acceptable interference is for the current round of testing? What is that standard? The NTIA selected the standard and 1 dB is a common standard and represents a 20% signal loss. 1 dB was also the standard agreed upon by all testing parties for the first round of tests. 8 dB is not a GPS standard for interference and was never ever considered by the NTIA for testing. Why was the testing conducted using outdated/discontinued devices rather than a representative sample of what is currently in the market? The test used a large number of different models. Consumer GPS devices don’t really go obsolete, especially if you can update the maps and given the nature of GPS technology and devices going wider band, it may be the obsolete ones that are more resistant to LS interference. Isn't it a violation of conflict of interest laws for representatives of GPS manufacturers to sit on the PNT advisory board and play a central role in its consideration of LightSquared when those companies are actively lobbying on the same issue?Perhaps, but then Bradford Parkinson is one of the key founders of GPS technology and widely respected and decorated in the scientific community, it’s not a surprise he would be on an advisory board for advising the Federal Government on GPS Testing was shrouded in secrecy, no transparency. It looks to me like testing was done in a similar fashion to the first round of tests, the test were done at White Sands Missile Range. NOAA has a presentation describing the test procedure for their receivers for this round of test. The only secrecy I can see was the confidentiality agreement in place with the device manufacturers to keep technical data confidential, like in the first round of tests. I’d imagine once the actual test report is released, details of the actual testing procedures will be provided. The NOAA presentation can be found here: http://gps.gov/multimedia/presentations/....

Sold about 5/6 of what I had left in Sprint today. A rise of near 20% in a couple days before the numbers is enough for me, and I don't want to be giving it back to the market tomorrow. I'll see what goes on first.
Interesting to see how the game is rigged by the way; my broker does not give me real time viewing so have to rely for example on Yahoo which does give near real time. Order took ages (10 mins) to sell and goes into many little pieces even though Yahoo said the price went up one cent above my ask two times during the period they were in the market.

LightSquared is still coughing and sputtering... LightSquared Response to FCC Public NoticeFebruary 15, 2012 Quote:After years of receiving regulatory approvals, the FCC approved LightSquared to build its ground network in 2005. In 2010, the FCC amended that plan, requiring LightSquared to build a national broadband network that reached 260 million Americans. At the government’s mandate, LightSquared began investing billions of dollars in America’s infrastructure – without asking for any money from the American taxpayer. Yesterday, after LightSquared had already spent nearly $4 billion, the FCC changed its mind. There can be no more devastating blow to private industry and confidence in the consistency of the FCC’s decision-making process.
It is not surprising that, as with all innovative new technologies, scientific concerns became an issue. In this case, the government decided to choose winners and losers. Politicians, rather than engineers and scientists, dictated the solution to the problem from Washington.
To leave this problem unresolved is the height of bureaucratic irresponsibility and undermines the very principles that once made America the best place in the world to do business. We remain committed to finding a solution and believe that if all the parties have that same level of commitment, a solution can be found. The American people send their representatives to Washington to solve tough problems and make our country better – not to undermine and pull the rug from under private enterprise. http://www.lightsquared.com/press-room/p....

Quote:Hedge fund manager Philip Falcone is ruling out a bankruptcy filing for his telecom startup LightSquared Inc, one day after U.S. regulators said they planned to yank the company's approval to build a national wireless broadband network.
"It is clearly not on our table," Falcone said in an email to Reuters on Wednesday when asked if LightSquared, the biggest investment in his Harbinger Capital Partners fund, was considering a bankruptcy filing.
He said there is a plan for dealing with the Federal Communications Commission's plan to revoke its permission for LightSquared to build out a land-based network, but he declined to offer any details. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/02/1....

Best of luck Philip.
Incidentally, I am generally in agreement with him, not the government on this; their protection of firms that sold devices for years without proper filtering is not Phil's problem, but this is one of those deals where there is really no GOOD outcome available, so you choose one of the bad ones and try to get the least-bad.

so the gov will refund him that spectrum they fraudulently sold him?
And this is good for CLWR - right? Now Sprint is tied at the hips to them and more incented to keep them on life support. Or does Sprint buy up the bonds and wait for them to go bankrupt (that's what I would've been doing all along if I were them)?
