The Dirty Tricks Squad Is Out

Well you knew it was just a matter of time.

For $850,000 a lobbying group appears to be willing to conduct all sorts of "opposition research", specifically (among other things):

Note that nowhere in that memo are the ideas that OWS espouses discussed.  Just the people, as much dirt as they are able to dig up, and of course the focus is on how to deliver that dirt for the best possible "response."

If you're wondering why nobody is willing to get involved in politics that you'd actually like to elect, this might have something to do with it.  This sort of "research" and "deliverable" is the type of poison that ruins any hope of a debate on the actual issues before the nation.  That firms are able to run this sort of smear tactic may be a matter of the First Amendment, but that this kind of organization is able to exist on these sorts of fees and that clients buy this type of "service" is an outrage.

The firm's web site touts that "they know everyone in town" and says:

With more than a century of combined experience working with 16 Congresses and seven Administrations, Clark Lytle Geduldig & Cranford stands out as a recognized leader in issue advocacy. Our team combines sophisticated high-level strategic thinking with robust ground-level relationships established over decades with key members of Congress and their staff, Administration officials, opinion makers, think tanks, trade associations, issue coalitions, the media, and political operatives.

Right.  And of course the method of "advocacy", when facing an issue you'd rather not take on in substance, is to trash the other side personally with as much dirt as you can dig up, presented "artfully" to make it appear as poorly as you possibly can.

This is nothing new or surprising, really.  The existence of this memo was discussed by MSNBC, so we can assume it's authentic despite the "odd" date on it; they appear to have confirmed that it actually exists and was circulated.

We often lament the poor quality of our politicians and look for better.  So long as this sort of process is the "meat and potatoes" of issue advocacy in the United States, you're not going to get better -- you're going to get the worst sort of animal in Congress and elsewhere, because nobody in their right mind is willing to put up with this crap.

I have often mused that you'd have to be outright nuts to be willing to run for President of The United States.  Exposing yourself to near-literal rectal exams from this type of "opposition research" for a literal period of years means that only an egomaniac who doesn't give a damn about the country and is an outright narcissist drunk on the promise of personal aggrandizement and power would be willing to put up with that.

Well, here we are and this is what we got.

Surprised?

I'm not.

Disgusted?

Yep.

And once you dare to run and get in, you become a member of the club. The club members are safe
from that moment on. Everyone in Congress has dirt on another member or will be provided said dirt
if requested. Dems and Repubs may have different philosophies and politics but their intrinsic survival
skills are one in the same...hence the cluster. Our Congress is one big club and we're not members.

We are the stooges...

Yep, and the political ads will be absolutely disgusting next year. In fact I saw one already, with opinion stated as fact but with no proof, run by the chamber of commerce (aka facsists-r-us)

A comparison of the Book of Revelations and the "proven anti-Semitic forgery and hoax" of THE PROTOCOLS OF THE LEARNED ELDERS OF ZION was good reading today.

Read it and compare with current/future events...

Meanwhile, I've been waiting for Obama (for whom I voted) to make a substantive statement regarding the assault on non-violent protesters who are taking part in what may be the largest movement of its type in 40 years. Moreover, I've been waiting for him to speak to the actual issues on the table.

Instead, we get lawyerly weasel-speak:
Quote:
President Barack Obama’s spokesman is suggesting the president believes it’s up to New York and other municipalities to decide how much force to use in dealing with Occupy Wall Street demonstrations.

No one ever discovered who discovered the dirt on Spitzer. Someone went through his credit card records to find the payments to hookers.

Without subpoena power, how do you get access to those records?

Hmmm. Maybe you are a bank and you own them.

What a deal. Yes, I've said as much about public service, that I care not to be subjected to the public enema. Reminds me of my draft physical when I turned 18 in the Pittsburgh Federal Building the summer of '64. About 20 of us guys standing there in our Fruit of the Looms and shoes and nothing else. Standing in 2 lines, the doc (or some dork in a white smock) yelled, "all right, bend over and spread your cheeks!". Wonderful experience. Yeah, pretty much what happens when you make it known you are running for a public office, local or otherwise. Someone said not too long ago of the Republican candidates that we aren't going to find any one that we don't find something not to like. We ALL have something in our past or present that's disagreeable to someone or a group of someones. And we'd just as soon keep it buried. Skeletons abound in all human "closets". Comes with the territory. That's why, it's all "Same Old, Same Old" this political season. Sigh. BTW, first post. Newbie here. Found Karl via Ann Barnhardt earlier this summer. Between Ann and Karl, it's been quite an educational experience this past few months. Hopefully, this great ship America isn't heading for another "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"...

$850K?

What a rip off.

I could do it sitting in my chair thinking and writing for a week and spending no money whatsoever.

Other than the blanks that were occupied by the letters "OWS" there is absolutely nothing new in this memo.

Drop in 'Democrat party' or 'Republican party' or 'Green party' or 'Ron Paul' or 'Name Your Candidate' and you have a recycling of nastiness that's gotta be outlined, play-by-play, down to the gnat's ass. It's just a matter of assigning the investigators (er, sorry, 'loosing the hounds') on their assigned targets; retaining a number of under employed yellow journalists, and secretly meeting with the most vile of hosts on the MSNBC morning-noon-evening talk shows, to point out the horrible mistake that America is about to make.

OWS should have been ready for this. They're in the kitchen, they walked in under their own power. They better be ready for the heat.

It will be amusing to see them scramble to smear the leaders of a "leaderless movement". Who, exactly, do they think they are going to bring down?

I don't think they understand the opposition.

Yet.

I do not see anything sinister in getting to the truth of a matter. The New York Times ran an editorial on November 12 entitled: "Who is Occupy Wall Street?" The origins and leaders of this movement seem to be a mystery to them too.
Genesis seems to be saying, who cares about the origins or who the leaders are. It could be the Russian KGB, or whatever it is called now. The important thing is the movement's ideas.
Ok, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Personally, I think understanding the origins of OWS and who the leaders are, is important. Of course, I do have any extra money to pay to find out. And how would I know what I was buying is the truth?

OWS may have started out as some Soros-funded idea, but it got away from the left really fast and is now beyond their control. Why do you think the feds are coordinating crushing it?

You pay in the coin of your own time and effort. Get down there in person, make personal contact with the protesters. Engage them in discussion. Find out if there are areas of agreement, or the possibility of teachable moments.

THEN you'll have some possibility of understanding what's afoot, and what might be possible. Absent that, you're simply captive to whomever's scrim you decide to look through.

Gingrich disses OWS in the latest family leader debate / thanksgiving family forum.

http://www.citizenlink.com/2011/11/19/th....

The context starts 1:03:00 asking about responsibility (as in rights and ...).

Gingrich responds at 1:10:02, and complains ows is sponging off the taxpayer. Nothing about the $750 billion welfare queens that should have been out on the street instead.

Even worse, he starts out with the plymouth colony captain telling the aristocrats if you don't work you don't eat.
