I don't see what you are looking at. The second document, in color, has more saturation in the black ink. The difference can be caused by color reduction in the GIF in the black and white version.

I think it's obvious that the White House processed the document for public consumption, highlighted areas, put it on an "official" looking background, etc. I see no evidence that they tampered with any data. The AP version is probably what was xerox'd directly from the log book.
Someone really does need to take a picture of them holding the binder with the certificate in it though.

As I said in the previous thread, I think the AP document is a true copy of the original (or at least a true copy of what the White House WANTS us to think is the original). The type looks a lot more consistent and even, and just generally resembles the output of a warn down typewriter with an older ribbon. If it's a fake, it will be hard to prove it without access to the scanned document or the registration book.
It's clear that the green-backed Whitehouse.gov document has been edited badly. The text has been darkened artificially, words have been moved, and various and sundry fixes made. The layers were left in the PDF.
Once again the Obama White House has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Agree this document has been altered. As for the date stamp not being aligned at the top...as an old-timer clerical worker, I can say with certainty that those old wheel-type adjustable date stampers were notoriously difficult to align perfectly. The month was first (3 digit alpha), then the day of the month (two digit numerical which were separately adjusted) and finally the year (a fixed 4 digit numerical). It was not unusual for one section to get heavier use than the others, resulting in uneven inkage. I remember trying to aim for perfection in the alignment and having to settle for cosmetically acceptable.
At any rate, this is just a minor quibble. The document is obviously doctored up. Thank you Karl for being on top of things, as usual. Kind regards to the Ticker Forum participants.

What about the point some people have made that the scanner used in Hawaii somehow produced automatically the "objects" or "layers", which were then picked up by Adobe when the image was put into PDF format?
Does that even make sense? I wouldn't know, but I'd be interested in hearing others' thoughts on it.
Regardless, why did they wait YEARS before releasing this -- was it just a calculation to keep the "birther" element around as a red herring? Also, did Obama and his handlers actually spend millions of dollars fighting in court to keep this thing from being released to the general public?

it almost seems like they were from different scans. some differences:
- the "1" in "August 4, 1961" is faded on the AP version, but not on the White House one.
- the "O" in the first "Oahu" is faded on AP.
- the second "a" in "African" and the second "a" in "Caucasian" are quite faded on the AP version, but plenty solid on the White House version.
- if you look at document properties, the "Page Size" for the White House version is 8.5" x 11", while the AP's is 13.49" x 16.17".
i know from using scanners and Xerox machines that if you scan the same document multiple times, you're bound to get subtly different results each time. they're never perfectly identical.
all in all, the AP version looks a bit more natural. i don't know why the White House felt compelled to put the green background on, but it strikes me as more pointless than suspicious.

A damn good way to permanently make the issue split along party lines, ie. anyone who is not satisfied with this document is a former birther now a just a "kook" The other side can (now) say "OK, He HAS released the long form" - Case closed.

I believe as much as anyone that O is hiding something about his past/origins, but I'm with Bozonian and Assassin on this one, there is no difference in the two images besides the saturation/clipping when the scan was done.
