Doesn't the DEFCON scale go the other way (except in the movies)?

You are too young to have experienced bomb shelter practice and such. You don't mean the economy during the 70's do you? It did suck but to me this seems worse.

Still, a lot of my ammo and stuff dates from back then. I recall pondering escape routes from Los Angeles and being recruited by a survivalist group. Gas lines had people kind of crazy, though I personally missed the worst of it.

I'm just glad I will finally get to use that retreat I spent a fortune building in Northern Idaho. Firing an AK-47 on full auto is a blast.

So Mr. Denninger, is this a way we can gauge when we ought to be loading the jeep and heading for the bug-out lodge? I.E. at 2 we should have the car gassed and loaded, and 1 is a Chinese fire-drill to grab the kids and get out before the roads get choked?

Appreciate the site greatly.

Silverdeth, if you are truly 50 miles from nowhere...stay put.
UPS will miraculously deliver damn near anything you order online.
To any address in the world. They have that figured out.

Just make note of when it is that UPS refuses delivery due to
remote location, fuel cost, labor demands.

When UPS stops - that's it - go Galt

And be ready.

May the last UPS order you place be the last order you require.

Hang in there. I've been planning ever since I read Harry Figgie's 'Bankruptcy 1995' as a kid. Its been a long painful wait - almost as long as my waiting for the Tampa Bay Bucs to win a Super Bowl....

But they did indeed win a Super Bowl......

You mean, WAS a blast. You lost that when your boat capsized on Lake Pend Oreille, remember? Along with your precious metals, spare food, etc.

As long as you don't mind having UPS know what you ordered, when you ordered it, etc..... Other than that, I agree with every word.

I think a small village where one could create an effective and mutually supportive community would be far, far more practical than a cabin in the wilds of Idaho.

Economies evolve, the evolution of the US underground economy to survive the the effective default of the US dollar might be just as simple as some locally exchanged scrip that is convertible into some practical and physical unit.

In W Virginia the unit might be the ton of coal. In Washington State it might be board feet of lumber. In Arizona it might be copper. In Iowa a given number of bushels of grain. In short, barter all over again.

I check the Ticker about 6-7 times a day since it is the site I trust most so I don't need it, but if any code writers are out there, there might be a few bucks in writing a small app that puts the "number" on the taskbar.

This TickerCon however, I like!

Why do you think the deficit has to be reduced so quickly, and then turn into a surplus to pay down the debt to a lower level? First of all, what's wrong with going much more slowly - say reducing the federal_deficit/gdp percentage by about 1-2% per year until it gets down to a target of about 3% per year? That could be done over a period of maybe 5 years. Second, what's wrong with a permanent 3% deficit/gdp? If nominal gdp grows faster than that, then the federal debt/gdp ratio still declines each year.

2% would be ~300 billion a year.

What's wrong with a permanent 3% deficit? Simple - exponential math. You're relatively new here, but I've been writing about this for a long time. The fundamental nature of exponents make this game one you will always lose.
