It's funny, but it's also deeply disturbing. The Michael Chertoff thing should be outright criminal, but I guess that's par for the course with the fraudulent government we so clearly have.......

----------

In the long run even the most despotic governments with all their brutality and cruelty are no match for ideas. Eventually the ideology that has won the support of the majority will prevail and cut the ground from under the tyrant's feet and rise in rebellion to overthrow their masters.

I am getting more and more angry about this whole matter as time goes on. The utter violation of our rights, the abject humiliation that people have to endure, simply to travel is way, way beyond what should be acceptable.

Here are a few suggestions to help change things:

1) Hound your Congresscritters on this issue until it goes away;
2) Hound the people in charge of your local airport - each airport can opt out of TSA coverage and, instead, provide private security - and one near Orlando has done just that. Get 100 airports to do this, and the TSA will be paying thousands of employees to do nothing (well, officially doing so, as opposed to unofficially doing so right now).
3) Without advocating anything illegal, I'd be thrilled to death if someone hacked into these machines and released thousands of examples of TSA porn - stored data that isn't supposed to be stored, but which we all know IS stored.
4) Opt out of flying, and let the airlines know about it.
5) Variants of everyone wearing a kilt, "commando-style" could cause TSA employees to walk off the job.
6) Without advocating anything illegal, I wouldn't mind seeing ordinary TSA employees and their families hounded and harassed a bit - after all, they're being given a free pass to view everyone naked (including children), or grope them if people refuse the radiation-enhanced porn option.
7) Without advocating anything illegal, I wouldn't mind seeing many more people punching out TSA employees for groping them, their wives or their kids. Perhaps we could encourage more members of the Hell's Angels to fly by giving them and their "old ladies" free tickets?

I would LOVE IT if some nationally-known reporter got groped but good, and then started a campaign to get this odious treatment banned. Questions for Obama and all other leaders in EVERY single press conference would become such a PITA that they'd cancel this crap just to make people shut up.

Yup, old Ben Franklin was correct: "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Back when Hawaii was made a state there was regular ship liner passenger service - that ended in the early 1960s. Now, maybe once in a while - I saw QE2 or something passing by on its way around the world.

Alaska is almost in the same position.

Too much safety kills:

The added delays and humiliation causes some people at the margin(where it makes a little more sense to fly than to drive) to switch from air travel to their car. Your odds of dying per passenger-mile is much higher in a car than in an airplane; therefor the added security will kill people.

Take terrorism to be a 300 deaths/year problem(9/11 death toll divided by 10). The money, public attention, labour and other resources spent on security could have been spent on other things(opportunity cost). Since so few terrorist deaths occur and preventing them is so expensive there are many places were the resources could likely save more lives. Heart disease is a ~830 000 deaths/year problem; a 0.04% reduction saves 300 lives per year. Smoking is a ~440 000 deaths/year problem; a 0.07% reduction is needed to save 300 lives/year. Trafic accidents is a ~45 000 deaths/year problem; a 0.7% reduction saves 300 lives/year.

Glenn Beck the other day said he spent several hours being screened (long story on why) on his way to Israel. He passed the screening, got on the plane, then while having dinner they provided him with a steak knife.

So what's wrong with providing a steak knife to someone you've decided is not a terrorist?

I remember late in 2001 or maybe early 200s, someone interviewed the head of El-Al security, and he said (paraphrased): "You Americans are doing this all wrong; you are looking for weapons. We don't look for weapons. We look for terrorists."
