We have all kinds of infrastructure investment here in the HUB zone. Leveled the long established DMV downtown so they could move to the trendy new shopping center outside of town, increased the width of the first quarter mile of road leading to that trendy center by about 5 feet so that it can handle the surge in traffic (after that it's a county road, they'll figure something out), and renovated an abandoned building as the new county transportation center, where I'd guess people can go with the last of their belongings on their way out of town to find a job when the day comes that no one is going to pay for them to sit on their asses at the bar at 11:00a every day.

Oh, and an old factory is being gutted so that BASF can set up a battery plant for electric cars--the wave of the future!

Something tells me if trillions went to infrastructure it would still be wasted on nonsense. We'd probably be chasing windmills like Don Quixote.

If they had spent the entire stimulus on nuclear plants and transmission and distribution lines I would have supported it.

That would have gone toward fixing one of the real and pressing issues - foreign energy dependence.

Energy independence would eliminate much of the need for the military industrial complex and such government intervention would be unfair to banks heavily-invested in foreign oil. Banks can't run a business if their own government is against them, and we're supposed to give MORE money to the military to prove that we "support our troops," lest we be un-American.

I think that as long as we have the luxury of making misguided, emotional decisions, logic will not have any place in the direction of our society. No way nuclear would have been an option with how hip solar and wind are, but I do agree that I could have easily gotten behind such a program.

My fear is that we will follow Lincoln and FDR through the coming Winter and continue with the emotional conquest, but it is comforting to know that logic will at least have a chance for once, however long the odds...
