The MAC address is not visible beyond the local LAN.

It doesn't matter what they are OK with. What matters is what they are legally entitled to.

Oh please.

Content Filter proxy servers, Active IDS, and IPS systems do this exact thing all day long.

It is not impossible, just really freakin' expensive. Probably cripplingly expensive for an ISP.

What we need to do is ban politicians from acting like they invented the internet. In fact, I would say that if you are in office, there should be a special proxy for you.

Who is this serving? The few or the many?

If something like this would be done, there also needs to be a public database that shows why a site got banned and for what reason.

How big does the burden of proof have to be before you strike a domain from the list? What if I as an employee or a solitary user, get the domain name of my company banned? There are so many legal problems with this that it boggles my mind that these people even can pronounce "internet", much less use it.

One IP can represent many users. This is corporate greed making us jump through more hoops. It's okay if they complicate the process to get what they want.

And I thought the mention of a 70GB Jazz collection was a retro comment about a bunch of ancient Iomega JAZZ disks for a JAZZ removable hard disk drive... silly me.
This is a really cool tech discussion which makes me feel, er,em, well at least I used to know a little about computers in the old days. Ack.

I suspect this bill mostly about politics and baby steps towards internet censorship, just a start.

This ticker made the Alex Jones site front page btw.

As Karl has noted, circumventing restrictions on DNS is indeed trivially easy.

So it seems to me that the next obvious step would be for the goobernment to inform ISPs that they may not route any packets to the IP addresses which the black-listed domains resolve to.

I have plenty of issues with pirated copies of my product being sold; one very blatant site is hosted by the same provider who hosts Wikileaks and who used to host The Pirate Bay. Nonetheless, I don't think it's worth screwing up the internet to stop them. As Karl stated, there are other ways to accomplish that.
