One of the senator is saying that this medical bill is a Christmas present to American people. Next year we should give pink slips as Christmas present to these senate members.

The Eurozone could survive if Greece was the only problem. Kick them out and rebase on a sounder footing under that scenario. But this is MUCH bigger than Greece. The rest of the PIIGS will be following soon and the "core" banks are in deep kimchee as well. The IMF is doing its best to play shell games with E. European debt but that won't last too long.

Certainly, the bond markets think Greece is a risky bet. Yields on the country’s two-year bonds soared to 3.09 percent from 1.9 percent this week — the worst for the markets here in more than a decade — and were about 3 percent on Friday, while the 10-year bond rose to 5.3 percent this week from an already elevated 4.99 percent.

...

Last week, the ratings agency Fitch downgraded Greece’s credit rating based on fears that the deficit might cause the country to default, and the change sent Greek shares plunging and made the markets jittery.

5.3% yield on a 10 year bond does not equate to a country that may default in the very near future. So what is the real story? Everyone is expecting a bailout???

On the beach the bonfire rages.

The natives, naked and in an orgasmic fever, revolve as planets around their invisible captor, dancing, chanting, exalting to the heat and light which gives them sustenance, caught in a gravity they cannot understand, cannot escape.

But the tide rushes in.

And no amount of fuel they throw on the fire can keep the flames lit.

Hi Mark:

"GDP should go completely, replaced by..."

By what? Frankly, I don't trust any number spewed from any government agency. Can you actually believe much that you hear from them?

Why do we have so many bloggers, such as Bottlewasher, attempt to read between the lines of the lines of the .....?

The hell with numbers. Give ne people's stories.

From Mikek31's link.....

Savas Robolis, a member of the main labor union, the Greek General Confederation of Labor, who serves on a government committee on pension reform, called the pension situation a “time bomb.”

Quote:
He said Greece had only enough money to pay pensions for one more year. If the country does not replenish the pension funds, “then we will face a huge social crisis in 10 years,” Mr. Robolis said.

Let me get this straight. You stop paying pensions in one more year and then after 9 years go by you will start to have a social crisis?

Ouzo for everybody!! Yeah, that's the way it's gonna go down.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's only nominal. With the amount of debt/GDP, the REAL interest rates are pushing the debt service burden to its limits.

A very high rate of interest - such as during the 1970s - can mean that even a low level of debt/GDP is hard to service; conversely, a low rate of interest –such as we have now – can be hard to service if debt levels are very high.

It is interesting to know what europe2020 research team says about greece (www.europe2020.org).
In their december letter they say:
"yes, greece is a treat to monetary union stability, but....
greece is only 2.5% of euro area gdp....
instead california (that is on the verge of bankrupt too) is more than 12.5% of usa gdp".

"Why do you see the speck in your brother’s eye, but fail to see the beam of wood in your own? How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck from your eye,’ while you yourself don’t see the beam in your own? You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."

Eugenioca - keep reading, Ticker Forum perceives BOTH!

ObamaCare is Congress' Christmas present to big pharmaceutical and insurance companies. The 75% of their constituents who are against this bill are ignored just as with TARP. It's not surprising anymore that the language of the bill regarding the "Death Panels" is unconstitutional AND rewrites current Senate rules. Why should a little law stand in the way of anything the President or Congress want? Minor inconveniences. Soon enough the people will see it that way, too. Then, chaos will ensue. My, how short of sight this Administration and it's cronies are.

Good point about US joblessness being a critical difference between US and Japanese depression experiences.

Meanwhile in Italy the troops are getting restless. This linked article in the MSM is pretty much out of "The Creature of Jekyll Island"

You can plug it into Google translate, but the translations are atrocious.

Pretty unthinkable to see something like this in US MSM.

you hit the nail on the head, Musashi.
someone in italy firmly believes that the linked article is the reason for which berlusconi was attacked in milan.
after all Il Giornale is the S.B.P.M. (silvio berlusconi personal media).
I don't like silvio but in italy there are worst candidates to government, like mario draghi (a Goldman Sachs alumni, GOD FORBID!).

E,

Is that the same Draghi connected with the scam at the Vatican Bank when they collapsed Banco Ambrosiano back in the 80's?

Musashi,
I don't know much about the draghi - banco ambrosiano scam link, what is for sure is that mario draghi was the man who arranged the fire sale of italian assets in 1992 in the event of the lira crisis started by george soros's speculation. I think they are trying to start the 2nd round in our national assets privatization...
