About the Hitler thing, Ambrose from telegraph wrote , Hitler rose because of deflation in 30s and not because of hyper inflation in 20s.

But history is not that simple though, it probably doesn't repeat the same way.

One thing is for sure, Hitler or not Xenophobia is going to increase. In tickerforum a lot of people have this discourse about hunting/barbecuing illegal aliens etc.., I am brown skinned so probably will be a target because I think hatred is not limited to 'legal' or 'illegal' immigration status, was always here legally and worked hard to get here. I don't expect a gun toting blood thirsty , desperate idiot to care and verify whether I am here legally or illegally.

I will be out of here as soon as I can, because I definitely don't want to be victim of some hate crime.

Genesis, Thanks for the correction, I didn't understand that. In my metaphor world then, I'm not paying interest on the promises, but I am still responsible for them. The magnitude is devastating.

Blacknapkins,

Tell me about the Obamamanic fantastic college craze. I hate it, so annoying. Where do you go to college?

Gen,

Today might be the crash you were calling for. The market tried to rally off the Citi news but seems to have failed miserably. The whole day we have been grinding lower without any real bounces. From your 87' chart it seemed like it was grinding lower the whole day and then fell out of bed. Today sure feels like it has potential...

Xanares moving to NYC in september is probably a spectacular idea. Rents are likely to be near bottom then (or at least very down). and NYC will perform better than the rest of the US. as the finance capital bailouts help NYC. even if they cold cock the banks like they should finance is a small percentage of the overall economy, in smaller cities finance is actually a much larger percentage of the local economy. nyc is incredibly dynamic and even in down turns the raw number of people and its status as an international business hub means there is constant economic experimentation. we go down last and up first.

Well, if the promises aren't kept, talk about massive social upheaval. What about all the baby boomers going into retirement that will be heavily reliant on Medicare/Social Security over the next 10, 20, 30 years.

The problem with the Social Security ponzi scheme is that it gives people a false sense of security. "I don't need to save as much and be responsible for myself, b/c big brother is there for me". So now that this generation has spent themselves to death and the big brother backstop may be weakening...oh my.

Not tinfoil....common sense: If you live in a big-city, urban environ...if/when the meltdown comes, a lot of folks used to getting $$/food aren't going to be able to so any more...even if there is food on the shelves.

they will get angry....they will get hungry and angrier...it'd be smart to have an idea of getting the hell out of dodge.

There are still a vast majority of 18-25 year olds who think that Obama has done the right thing, and can do no wrong. Of course this can change, but most people are very happy with this Admin. Of course they're not reading forums like this, and analyzing it with any detail.

I am shockingly discovering this problem in my own age group (35 - 50) since joing facebook. I am stunned by the optimism from people I just know are too intelligent to be this foolish, unless they absolutely are so into themselves they are not reading and analyzing on their own. It's scaring me. Most of my facebook friends are not saying a word, but I know what they are thinking, however one (currently has a bid in on a $350,000 CA short sale she knows should only be worth $250,000) has been going back and forth with me and her last words were basically, well, it's too soon to tell, so we should keep out fingers crossed and hope for the best. I swear I'm gonna pull a Karl and kick her off - lol. She obviously didn't read the link I put to Karl's ticker on wall regarding the topic when I started my little rant, so this time I posted it right in my last response to her with a request to actually read it.

She hasn't said anything since, but I'm telling you, people like this scare me more than the crooks, because there wouldn't be any, and we wouldn't be in this mess if it weren't for them. This country still has a long way to go in waking up, making Karl's concerns all the more real every day that goes by. They don't even see the "No Confidence" right under their noses and what it's doing to us.

I'm hoping for the Hitler option. Anything that gets us closer to Texas seceding so that the rest of you poor bastards can deal with the California/NorthEast halfwits is A-OK in my book.

We have our own power grid, deep water port, refineries, food sources, and plenty of land and guns for carving out a new life.

Gen, it sounds like being able to grow your own food and be in a small community are ways to prepare for this. (Manned compounds?)

That sounds like everything, all the business around us, could collapse?

When you say it could be that bad, it tends to freak me out.smiley

I'm hoping Karl is dead wrong on all of this too because its freaking me out a bit as well. Karl isn't a dramatic, fear mongering, tin foiler so when he speaks, you know his thoughts are well thought out and based on reason. I continue to pray that our elected officials pull their heads out of their asses in time.

Genesis said, "The promises WILL NOT BE KEPT. Period."

(I don't know how to make it appear is a block quote)

If the U.S. had spent $50 million every day since the birth of the Bible's Father Abraham (presumed by many to be 2000 B.C. give or take), we would not have spent enough to make good on that $75 trillion figure.

Genesis is right! That money can never be dolled-out with anything approaching sound dollars. It's time to add a room for grandma.

Is anywhere else here amazed at the orderly exit from the markets. I had SP 1170 puts a long time ago. If it would have tanked then when it should have I could have retired. Lets just say I had a bunch.

But I am amazed that this has not just collapsed the last week.

Meltdown,
That Facebook experience hits pretty close to home. People my age (40s) who I considered intelligent, but hadn't associated with for many years (college, some high school, lots of ex-service guys) have really dissappointed me. I wouldn't have known if it weren't for joining facebook. I haven't been back to my Facebook site since the day before the election. Too disgusting and I don't want to taunt. Yet.

Amazing you should use that quote.
My 18 year old son, who is forwarded Ticker's and real news, sent me a video clip LAST NIGHT he took while playing Fallout 3 that uses that exact quote. He's found plenty of other items in other games(one book in the background titled "Congessional Lying", etc). He too sees those afflicted with HOPE-nosis at college.

Great Ticker Karl.
We know "they" read them but it could be like the saying goes:

Obama, is surrounded with people who crashed the plane as Taleb would say, he has done nothing yet that says he gets it and understands it.

Alex, I'll take affirmative action for $50. Supposedly, BHO has an IQ of 125. While that's smart enough to get a law degree from a 2nd tier school (Btw, how did he get into HLS without achieving any honors at Columbia? For that matter, how did he even get into Columbia?), it falls well short of what is necessary to understand the complexities of our current situation.

He simply doesn't get it. We're all strapped in and there's no getting off until the ride is finished.

Other options are of course also possible, like a medium-sized war, a terrorist attack, or even a "terrorist" attack. The numbers don't lie, but the whole economic black hole could be put in brackets by a political move. Either within the US or with an international agreement. This crises presents a god-sent chance to a lot of eager power-grabbers. This crises will turn rapidly from an economic crisis to a global political opportunity.

1 % chance that you already have your "Hitler". Have a look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01MNZBTt4....

Let me relate a completely subjective, personal observation I made this past weekend while touring Pearl Harbor: the military will not back Hussein. Rather, the Hilter personality who takes over a cratered USA will come from the military.
